I've been wondering...
Forgive my ignorance , but there are some things I've been wanting to know for quite a while but no one can answer them. I thought maybe you all could help me out a little...OK, first of all, did your chapters have rules that you could not have more than two socials (e.g. date parties, not formals) per semester and that you had to lock the kitchen overnight? Also, is it true that you are required to keep paying every month as an alum or you have to hand over your badge?!?
Oh, and one last thing, why did our Founders pick Delta Zeta as our letters? I'm not kidding--nobody in my chapter knows this. (If it's something we're not supposed to tell, you can e-mail me.)
Thanks!!

Okay...number of socials per semester is something that should be in your chapter by-laws. We limit ourselves to 4 and we have to vote to go over that many. We usually go ahead and do it if our grades have been really high, but we stick to the 4 if we aren't tops in grades.
Once you go alum, you do not have to pay dues. To be part of the alum chapter, you have to pay an annual fee that is determined by your alum chapter. I think it's around 50 bucks here.
I cannot, however, share the meaning of the letters with you. I am sure you can understand why I will not disclose that info, as this is only a website and there is no way I can confirm your membership. It is part of the ritual and it is pretty clearly explained.

I was told that the 2-social rule was a national one, but then, who knows? I was just wondering because it seems that all the other sororities are going out to date parties and mixers all the time while we're sitting at home on Friday and Saturday nights twiddling our thumbs. We're not on social probation to my knowledge, so maybe...ah, well.
As for the letters, I've been through four initiations including my own and we were never told what our letters stood for. Ever. I know why our colors are pink and green and what the writing on our crest means, but the letters? Nah. I'm going to see if I can get hold of a ritual book and try to find it...it's hard to get access to those things as we're not allowed in the office, but it's a shame that I have these letters sewn to my shirt and no clue what they mean.

Actungbaby80,
No one in your chapter knows what the DZ letters mean? As ritual advisor for a chapter here in Georgia, that really surprises me!
I can't tell you what the letters mean online. Even e-mail is not a safe place to send messages because they can be so easily intercepted. In fact, National HQ has told us not to send out any private Delta Zeta information via e-mail, and not to post messages with such info in chat rooms - even if they are advertised as "Delta Zeta Only" rooms.
Since I can't help you out myself, my suggestion would be to ask your CCD. If she doesn't know the answer, have your president contact National Headquarters (via telephone) to find out. This is information that every Delta Zeta should know, so please have your chapter get this issue taken care of soon!
Good luck!
DZLAM,
Carrie

Let me clarify--we know about, you know, those words that they reveal to us during initiation. I can't say any more, obviously, but what we were all wondering was, is that all? So many people (non-Greeks as well as other DZs) have told us so many other things that the letters are supposed to stand for, and I was just wondering if there was any truth to it or if maybe I had missed something, being halfway flaky myself... I don't know, I'm starting to confuse myself--don't worry about it!!
Thanks, yes, I will talk to the CCD about it!

Like we said, the only needed explanation is given in ritual. If you are hearing anything else, it is wrong.
