criminal record
I am interested in joining a Fraternity, but I have a criminal record. Will i be denied the opportunity to join with a criminal record.

^^ To be honest, that's not definitive either. Obviously, murder was an extreme, but there really isn't a sliding scale of acceptable crimes. It's going to depend on the GLO.

As the others have said, it does depend on the organization and the crime. If your record was minor enough or "explainable enough" to be admitted to a university, I think most fraternities would be able to look past it if they wanted to give you a bid, but some may have national policies preventing it or may not want to take the risk.

You're right. If someone was looking they could find it. But who looks? Sororities might research their pledge class, but fraternities generally don't. I would think that the worst that would happen is the guy gets blackballed. After he's initiated, it's a moot point.
