What did you do for your 100th?
What did you Fraternity/Sorority do to commemorate the 100th anniversary of your group. Alpha Phi Omega's 100th is in 2025, I just wanted to get ideas...

Our 100th Founders Day is January 13, 2013. Instead of doing a National Convention summer 2012 we are saving up for the Founders Day and Centennial celebration January 2013-July 2013. This Centennial celebration includes but is not limited to a Hollywood Gala and 100th Founders Day Weekend in January; Delta Days at the Nation's Capital and Women's Suffrage March Re-enactment in March; and concludes with the 51st National Convention in July 2013.

Here's what I recall offhand:
* Postponed Convention because it was not going to fall on the centennial year and they wanted to have a Convention that year.
* Had a flag made for each chapter and opened Convention with a flag parade with the delegate of each chapter carrying their chapter's flag. The flags are in the University/college's colors and have the chapter name and university/college name on them. Flags for chapters that were resolved were carried by either an alumna from that chapter or someone from near that geographic area.
*Held memorial ceremonies and hung a special medallion at the grave site of each of our 11 Founders
*Published a history book
*Wrote a special Centennial Song, then at Convention, each attendee received a wooden music box that plays that song
*Centennial quilt with a square from each chapter which I believed was pieced together by AGDAlum
*I don't know what you call them but there are fabric banners that hotels/cities post on poles along the street... we had those by the Convention hotel.

I initiated into our second oldest chapter a few months before the 100th anniversary of the chapter. We had a huge banquet on a Saturday night in the ballroom at the Michigan Inn and there were many, many sisters there. It was pretty overwhelming and I don't actually remember much, but I do remember that I wore a brown velvet suit with a mode blouse.

AOII had our Centennial Convention in New York City in 1997 since we were founded in New York City at Barnard College. In honor of that milestone, we awarded 100 centennial scholarships, one of which I received for my first year of medical school.  A chapter quilt was made and is now hanging in our IHQ building. A history book of the first 100 years was written. A Limoges box celebrating the centennial was sold as a commemorative (we had a whole collection of Limoges boxes for a while there. I don't have any of them, but maybe one day I'll hunt them down.) Each chapter donated something to the university in honor of the centennial. My chapter planted a Jaqueminot Rose garden at NLU. I don't think it is there anymore bc the sorority dorm burned down about 3 years later. I can't recall anything else. I didn't go to convention so I probably missed somethings.

I will add that in addition to the things mentioned, we published a massive 700-page book called the Centennial Book of Essays and Letters (a must-have) and had a lot of neat convention gifts like a leather (?) bag, medallion, pin, etc.

As our centennial year (1998) was not a convention year for us, we kicked off our centennial year with our national convention in 1997. For the centennial itself, we had a Centennial Celebration in Boston, which included banquets/luncheons/receptions, programs, presentations, ritual, a special presentation to the New England Conservatory (where we were founded) and a trip to Thompson, Connecticut, for a memorial service at the grave of our Founder, Ossian Everrett Mills. One special surprise was the attendance at the banquet and the memorial service of Mills' grandson and his wife and four daughters.
We also published a Centennial History and a Centennial Songbook, which included new songs written for the Centennial. Centennial fanfares were also written. Numerous other commerative items were available both at the Centennial Celebration and to those who could not attend it.
And of course, chapters and provinces planned their own celebrations.

Well, I was 11 when SigEp had it's centennial celebration, but here's what I found in an old copy of the Journal.
- Balanced Man Celebration
- Alumni Reception
- Parade in Washington DC (founding was in Richmond, VA fyi)
- Centennial Celebration in Warner Theatre
- Educational Foundation Luncheon
- Tour through Holocaust Museum
I believe these are just highlights.

Reading others posts reminded me.. our collegiate chapters also donated some kind of memorial item to their respective colleges/universities. I think my chapter donated a bench with a plaque, IIRC.

We are having our 100th next year in the Waldorf in NY. I don't know if I'll be able to go cause it's pretty expensive. Maybe the national fraternity will let more undergrads go for cheaper.
