Pageant Hopeful

I'm looking for some advice regarding Miss America locals and Miss USA state pageants. I'm looking to enter into a few pageants and thought maybe some of the members of this site may be able to either guide me to advice or provide it themselves since I know several titleholders are members of GLO. What do you need to do to prepare? What do you keep in mind? I'm looking for the same type advice we often give PNMs on this board regarding recruitment, but in a pageant sense. Basically what I need to do to succeed in the process.

Thanks for any help/advice you can provide!

Just because some pageant winners are members of GLOs doesn't mean that members of GLOs know anything about pageants.

Maybe you should look for advice on sites about pageants...

I'll bite: try a pageant board. My favorite one isn't geared so much toward preparation as toward pageant news, but the posters there will be infinitely more helpful in answering your questions:

Know that MAO is very different from MUO. MAO is much more community, scholarship and whole person oriented. They pride themselves on the millions of dollars in scholarship money given out annually, and require both a talent and platform for their contestants.

MUO typically is much more modeling and entertainment-oriented.

My advice is to talk to the directors of your local pageants to see how supportive they are of new contestants. Some local pageants do a lot of training and prep work because their contestants are primarily new to pageantry and come from the local community. Other locals are mainly feeders for experienced girls to win their way to another shot at the state title and the pageant itself won't offer much guidance.

This is a great pageant thread.
