Amazon.com and GLO Books

I was just at amazon.com and out of curiosity (sp ) put in Beta Theta Pi, and I got some interesting results, so I tried some other GLO's and got similar results, things like pledge manuals as well as normal histories and song books (and in some cases cookbooks ).

I know that we've talked about pins and things on ebay and thought that this was kinda similar. Things like pledge manuals obviously don't have any secretive information or anything, and aren't nearly as prized as pins are but still I found this somewhat disconcerting...Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

A think that there's a big difference between someone who is not part of your GLO buying a pin and buying a songbook.
I earned my pin because I learned what it meant. I earned it because I am an initiated member of Zeta Tau Alpha.
As for a history book, I just think that anyone can read up on the history of my organization. I actually find it flattering in a way that someone would pay money so that they could learn my organization's history and songs.
I don't see many people outside my GLO really wanting to buy a ZTA history book because they can find the ZTA history anywhere on the web. Also, the book, unlike a pin, can't be melted and then sold for something else.

There is more in those pledge manuals than you would think. Read between the lines, young grasshopper.

DZSAIgirl,

They have the DZ song book for $50.00 at this url:

http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/ts/...287950-8145355

I know you probably already have it or something but I thought I would tell you my findings to add to yours for any interested DZ's or any other people.

I do realize what you mean. I think that at least for me some of the in between the lines stuff will come together once I initiate, and so thusly will not be noticed by an outsider.

However, the fact that reading between the lines may reveal anything, only makes the situation worse.

Amazon.com

When I saw the thread, I thought "Geesh, how would Amazon get these books?" I can't image HQ's having a direct link to Amazon so I guess the majority come from 2nd hand, etc., dealers.

I didn't realize Amazon was like that, I thought they only sold new, not "recycled" items. Sort of like Ebay without the auctioning. Betcha a lot of the items on Ebay came from Amazon or vice versa.
