LSU Recruitment?

Have several friends of my daughter going through right now. I have no way of contacting them to check how it's going. Is anybody aware of how the numbers are going? I know from several GC members and personal experience that the SEC was especially brutal this year. Record numbers of girls participating and therefore record numbers of "cuts". Worrying about "my Tiger girls"

No.

The number of girls participating has nothing to do with the percentage that are cut. It just means (if the girls themselves do not drop out of rush) that quota will be larger.

There may be more girls cut FROM CERTAIN CHAPTERS due to RFM, but not from rush as a whole.

And even then, isn't it proportional with how many are in recruitment. If quota is anticipated to be higher, don't the top chapters get to keep some more? I thought that, but I don't have any idea if it's true.

Yes. So the proportion is the same, but the raw number may be larger.

I may have "done the math wrong". However, everything I am reading as a newbie to this entire process has mentioned that the initial cuts have been deeper with less "raw numbers" of girls going to subsequent rounds, due to the fact that they just have to get to a certain number. I have heard gossip that LSU would only "have spots" to place about 2/3 of the girls that go through recruitment. I don't know if this is similar numbers to previous times, but as a parent of a PNM it "appears" that more girls are getting cut. I am sorry if I don't understand the math, just asking a question. Friends who are LSU alums state that the anticipated pledge classes at LSU are still slated to be around "63". If there are 10 chapters, and each is anticipated to select 63 pledges, that would be 630 girls placed. therefore if you have 1300-1500 girls going through recruitment, that seems to be by my math 670-870 girls NOT being placed. Even if pledge classes approach 100, there would be 300-500 girls who are not placed. I certainly don't claim to completely understand recruitment math, I only have an advanced biology degree, not math, but even so, from the outset, this was skewed math.

Others have said that lots of girls going through BAMA are getting cut/released/voluntarily withdrawing. Others have said that UGA was "especially brutal".

No, we are telling you this just isn't true. These rumors circulate every year, at every school. If you don't get invited back to your top choices, the releases are "especially brutal".

Think of it this way: the number of women that each chapter can invite back each round is a percentage, not a hard number. So if XYZ gets to invite back 50% of the PNM pool for first invitational, it doesn't matter if there are 1500 women and they can invite 750 or 1000 women and they can invite 500.

They don't decide quota before recruitment starts. These LSU alums are guessing what quota will be based on trends. They don't decide to only give 2/3 of PNMs a spot. It doesn't work that way. If all 1300 women (which isn't the number signed up for LSU incidentally) went through the process without being released or dropping out because they didn't get the one chapter they wanted, quota would be 130.

ETA: 1052 rushed last year at LSU. The number will likely be similar.

It's always brutal to the ones who get released or withdraw because they don't get invted back to their top choices. You have to keep in mind that some percentage of the 1000 or ever how many registered do not meet the requirements for membership. So they are going to be released before any others. some women jsut refuse to grasp that they are all that exceptional that groups will suspend their rules just for them! So some women are always going to be left out. Sorry, but they should not have signed up if their grades are too low or they've been arrested for drug possession or prostitution or etc, etc, etc.

My daughter said there are a little over 1100 going through. Can't tell you much of anything else. She is so busy this week and really only knows about what is going on at her sorority. I don't think LSU is as competative as Alabama and Ole Miss but if the girls aren't open to all sororities there can be some disappointment. All the groups all very good but just like all schools there are certain ones that all the gilrs want. If they keep an open mind I do think most girls get placed.

That is not true about only taking a certain number. They will take as many girls as quota will allow. So it will probably be around 100 girls. I think that is about what quota was last year. Good luck and I want to know where they pledge.

well I wish I could give more info. My daughter doesn't really share many details. And she is not the kind that really talks about rumors or things that she hears are going on down the row. So I don't have any info to sahre and no one going through this year from our little corner of the world. ( not that I would spread rumors!!!!!)
