Hi girls,
I missed you all too!!!!! We just got home about 3 hours ago. I almost immediately came onto GC and I am just devastated about Alpha. I can't believe it. I'll comment further on that in the other thread.
My trip, all in all, was great! The only awful thing that happened was that my 1 1/2 year old nephew ended up in the hospital for four days with a very high fever and a fast heartrate. It was very scary for my whole family. I couldn't bear seeing him hooked up to IVs and heart monitors. Thank God, he was released on Friday and will make a full recovery.
We went to Midtown and did all the sightseeing of the Christmas windows on 5th Avenue. We also went to Rockefeller Center and saw the tree and the ice-skaters. I started to cry watching the tree in red, white and blue.
We went to Radio City Music Hall and saw the Christmas Spectacular, which reminded me that I wanted to be a Rockette as a little girl. We also saw Phantom of the Opera (second time for us both) but we loved it.
Some other really awesome things: my cousin who works for Guiliani took us on a behind the scenes tour of City Hall. We even visited Guiliani's private office and Sean got to play with the full-size Waterford baseball bats that the Yankees gave the Mayor when they won the World Series. City Hall is soooo beautiful and old! We also got to walk around the new park around City Hall, where I was approached by the cheekiest little squirrel looking for food to eat out of my hand! We got it all on videotape...really cute stuff.
The best part was when we drove around downtown with my cousin and his chauffeur/bodyguard in the City vehicles. Whenever there was traffic, the driver would turn on his little siren and we'd get to run red lights, go in restricted areas, etc. I'm telling you guys, if you ever get yourself a driver, you're golden.

We didn't go all the way to Ground Zero--I didn't want to, it was too emotional for me. But we went within a few blocks. All you see is rubble and cranes and floodlights. There is still smoke rising from the crater. I can honestly say that it was one of the saddest things I've ever seen.
Onto more happy things...as for shopping, I bought myself a Kate Spade wallet & purse, and a Gucci tote bad. On Canal Street, of course.

But I must say, they look wonderful. But OK, one of the things on my "dream come true" list...I went out to dinner with a TWENTY CARAT DIAMOND NECKLACE on my person!!!! It was a birthday present to my cousin from her (very rich) husband, and she let me wear it. How cool is that?!?! Wish she'd had it before I got married. Would have loved to wear it for the wedding.
So that was my week in the big city...wonderful for the most part and all too short. But now I'm glad to be back and settling in again. I really did miss you all! I'm glad the feeling was mutual.
