Similar question slightly different, Junior rushing?

Hello!

First I wanted to say that I have been reading the other threads about upperclassmen rushing and my situation is slightly different, so I just wanted to get some advice as to whether I should rush this upcoming fall or not.

I rushed last year as a sophomore and ended up deciding to drop out in the middle of it. I was not cut by all the chapters but I had a closed mind last year sadly and after being cut by my top choice decided to just quit. I really regret quitting since many of the chapters that invited me back were ones that I enjoyed and had really sweet girls. This year I have been thinking about doing it again. I do think I have improved my application for this year since I have brought by GPA up a lot and have gotten involved on campus with some clubs. I still want to rush though. I think it is a great opportunity that I only have a short amount of time left to experience. Once I'm out of college I think I may regret not doing it.

So here is my question, does bringing up my GPA considerably and joining clubs make my chances any better for getting a bid even though I am now a junior?

Another couple of details: my school is competitive with greek life but also has an upperclassman quota.

Thanks for any advice! Sorry if this question is too similar to ones that have already been asked.

No one here can tell you what your chances are.

[It never ceases to amaze me how people think their situation is "slightly different" even though it really isn't. In their mind, maybe...but certainly not on GreekChat.]

Bringing your GPA up and getting involved in more clubs certainly can not hurt you. Having an upperclassman quota may or may not help you depending on the quality and quantity of upperclassman going through. If you want to go through recruitment go through with an open mind. You have nothing to loose.

You're not the snowflake you think you are, and if you were, it would make your question about your chances even more ridic, since there'd be no precedent to judge on (which is what a guess on your chances would be even if we were inclined to guess). I'll leave you with this: If you don't rush, you have a 100% chance of not getting a bid (through FR).

Some things to consider, how many upperclassmen typically go through recruitment at your school? What was the upperclass quota at your school last year? How many chapters take upperclass quota (just because there is UQ doesn't mean chapters must take upperclassmen)? I don't know your school, but these are questions I would consider if I were in your shoes. The answers should give you an idea of what your chances are like, but as someone posted earlier, you won't know unless you go through. Good luck to you!

Upperclassmen quota often doesn't mean that's how things end up. At many schools, upperclassmen quota is, for all intents and purposes, "sophomore quota."

You will never get a bid if you don't rush, but be honest with yourself about how you will emotionally handle what will very likely be a brutal process for someone in your situation (which is not unique at all.)

Have you made friends with any women in sororities? Not hi how are you facebook friends, but people you actually talk to on a regular basis and could talk to about your chances? If not, clubs and an improved GPA really aren't going to do a lot for you. They already have friends they are thinking of to fill that upperclassman quota.

It depends so much on your campus. At some schools being a junior is really not going to be a problem. At others you might as well not even try. At most they are going to be substantially more critical of your credentials than they would if you were a sophomore or freshman but there is still a chance. If you've improved your GPA and gotten involved on campus, and hopefully made some sorority member friends, AND you are on a campus that's open to juniors, then sure, you have a chance. And even at the most competitive school there's still a chance, but then you REALLY better have some girls on the inside pulling for you.

With so many colonies happening next year, if there happens to be one coming to your school next year, that's going to be a good way to go since they want a range of ages for the new colony. I'm not going to get into all that here, but read up a lot on that and don't assume it's the easier way to go.
