I know that at the chapters near me, they don't have house moms. Besides the president they have another member who looks over things and keeps things in order. She's similar to a dorms Resident Advisor.

At my school the house mother is simply a responsible woman hired by our house corp who wants the job. We had a house mother for a number of years who was a former member of a different sorority. She simply wasn't around during our meetings and ceremonies but otherwise kept on eye on things.

At my chapter our house mother is a women who was hired for the position. She is not an official Tri Delta, however, she does have Honorable Tri Delta status. She does not go to chapter or any rituals.

my chapter has its own house for the first time next year. this spring we went through the process of hiring a house mother. the one that we chose used to be house mother for a fraternity at our college. i don't think that she is a theta alum. she gets paid only about $14,000 a year but gets room and board and telephone. i know she will eat w/ us but i don't know if she'll attend chapter mtgs., and definitely not initiations.

At CSU, the house moms are hired by the sorority and are there for support and to look after the girls in the house. Last year we had a house mom who was an alum and sometimes came to chapter to talk about important issues, attended and assisted with initiation and other rituals. In the fall we will have a new house mom and last I heard it was between a non alum and an alum for the job. If the non alum gets the job then she won't be able to participate in any rituals (including chapter). Hope this helps!

Wow, nice topic to bring up again!
Iowa State Theta Delta Chi has a housemom, she has been here for seventeen years. Yeah, back in the day, our members initiated her (for some reason, never know why), and she became the first and only Theta Delts. She knows all rituals, all traditions and all other things.
The main responsibility of her is to direct the house. As the house director, she has a strong influence. She is an awesome woman!

I don't know if our house mother is an honorary Zeta but she's a great woman. She looks after us like our own mothers would and she actually has her own house right behind our house. She also looks after the kitchen and sometimes cooks us dinner and lunch when our cooks aren't able to come in. She gets paid through our Nationals and her room and board are free but she does have to pay her own phone bill. She was hired, I believe, with the help of our Nationals. We've only had the house since 1990 and I think she's been there ever since we moved in. We love her so much!

The house mom at UGA is not a DZ. She's actually the biological sister of our Regional Collegiate Director and is a really nice lady. She gets paid to make sure that the house looks nice and that the girls are taken care of by overseeing the cooks and maids. Although she lives in a small apartment inside the house, she doesn't attend any meetings or ceremonies, and stays out of sight during Rush.
