Kent State Recruitment
I am going to be a sophomore at Kent next year and I'm really upset that I didn't rush this year. I just wanted to know what all of the different chapters were like. I went to the info night and I loved three of them and two of them I was kind of unsure about. There are a lot of rumors about each one and some of them make me nervous. I also wanted to know exactly how recruitment works and what the chances are that I won't get into a sorority. If I didn't I would be so sad. If anyone has any info that would be great. Thanks!!

We don't discuss unfounded rumors or reputations on Greek Chat.

You won't find us discussing rumors, reputations, or stereotypes. Each group has something wonderful to offer. Make your own opinions. If you maximize your options while going through recruitment, you are very likely to get a bid (KSUViolet can confirm). And remember to have fun, and don't listen to the people talking trash!

My understanding is that Kent State has a strong Greek system so you can't go wrong. To be clear, there isn't a best or worst, just what's best or worst for you. And any rumors about girls being sluts, partiers, geeks, fat, supermodels, can more than likely be applied to every chapter in different contexts, because every chapter is going to have all of the above. Do your best to block out the chatter and try to make your own decisions based on your experiences, not what other girls are saying. I can promise you there won't be some secret reveal after pledging where you're told you have to put out, drink a bottle of vodka, start skipping class, or anything else you may be worried about.

Thank you so much! I wasn't trying to discuss anyone's reputations in particular, I just wanted to know if reputations are something to be wary of. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Only your own! That's the one you should be concerned about.

You want the honest truth? They're all amazing. Really. I have had good friends in every single one. Every chapter at KSU is great and it's a privilege to be part of any one of them.
I'd encourage you to attend Blast Off right before school starts. It's a great opportunity to meet more Greek women and learn more about recruitment and how it works.
KSU's Panhellenic has a great site that breaks down the schedule pretty well and talks about how it works. The best place for questions about how it works/what to wear/etc. is the Panhellenic VP of Recruitment.

In a nutshell, recruitment is a mutual selection process. As you are getting to know chapters, they are getting to know you and determining whether they can see you in their group.
A piece of advice: be wary of rumors regarding any chapter as they're all untrue and made up by people who aren't even part of Greek Life. It's also considered rude to discuss stereotypes and rumors about chapters (think about it: would you want someone to talk about you and how they don't like you before getting to know you? Same thing with sororities.)
As far as not getting a bid, the women who don't are the ones who are rude, or are more concerned with stereotypes than actually getting to know chapters, or are only interested in certain ones.
I have found that if a PNM has a good attitude and keeps an open mind to all chapters she meets, and is focused more on meeting people than gossip, she has a good chance to receive a bid. It's all about being positive.
Best of luck to you! Kent really is a great place to be Greek!

Read more, type less. You'll be fine.

Hi, I am also going to rush at Kent in the fall. KSUViolet you have been so helpful, especially in the PM you sent me. I was wondering if there was anyone else who has gone through greek life at Kent to see if there are any other perspectives or tips they might have?

My best advice would be for you to both relax and stop posting so much. Your recruitment is four months away and the more you post here, the greater the chances are that you'll become memorable to the sorority members at your school . . . and I don't mean memorable in a good way. Spend your summer doing something interesting that will be fun to talk about during recruitment.
