Alpha Gamma Delta closed!
I just heard from one of my sisters the the Alpha Gamma Delta chapter at Syracuse University is about to be closed. Did you know that was their Alpha chapter? Well, like they say only the strong survive.

It is indeed their Alpha chapter and I'm sure the entire organization is grieving.
They hope to return to the campus in 4-5 years.

I wasn't going to respond, but oh well. "Only the strong survive" -- what kind of a comment is that? What is the point of insulting another organization? AGD IS a strong organization. If a chapter is closing, that is too bad for all greeks, not just the group involved. I would think that you would be more supportive of greeks in general, rather than just making a catty slam against AGD. Whatever.

That's very sad...I hope they are able to come back strong in a few years!! As for 'only the strong survive', I hope AGD comes back kicking!!
They are a great national organization with a strong history, and they deserve a lot more respect than a comment like that gives them. EVERY GLO has good and bad years, and I find it displays a lot more strength to rise from the dust after such a situation; much more strength than it takes to coast along, making light of others' misfortunes. I hope that OrangeGirl spoke without thinking, and didn't really intend her words to sound so callous.

The only the strong survive comment, don't worry, we will. AGD still has 178 active chapters that are very strong and doing very well. Our Alpha chapter sisters have all my strength and support. It must be very hard and I hate to let them go inactive, but I know that they will be back stronger than ever. I know on my campus 3 chapters have closed and Iwould never say it was because they weren't strong, rather than it was because sometimes negative stereotypes are perpetuated by other groups and that fuels flames that are already sparks. It is unfortunate, but I know that is what has happened at my campus. As for the women of Alpha chapter, EPSILON PI....
Love and loyalty,
Sarah

First off, are we POSITIVE that Alpha Chapter is closing? I know they were having troubles and alot of us sent them cards to inspire. If its only a rumor, I dont want us to jump ahead.
AS far as only the strong survive. Every chapter has had its hard times, whether its now or in the past. Alpha chapter will remain strong whether its active or not. Im sure the girls will continue doing things together. It takes alot of things to have a strong chapter...not just numbers. I wish the best for Alpha Chapter and also Chi (which is rumored to be leaving). LIEP to both, and all other AGD's.

I am not an AGD member, but I did have lots of AGD buddies in college - and you could not find a friendlier, more outgoing and sweet person around! The chapter at the Univ of Tenn became inactive sometime after I graduated, but I hope they are able to open back up soon - and I hope the chapter at Syracuse does too!

I think it is in bad taste to open a discussion on a closed/closing chapter. If it is going to be done I think, it should be done by someone from that group, at least.
We have many other things to chat about, it is never a positive thing to close a chapter and that sort of thing can hurt feelings.

Alpha Gams are the best! Alpha Gam will still thrive even with out Alpha, because they are some of the greatest gals in the world especially the ones I know. Many GLO's don't have their Alphas open for one reason or another but they do just as well. Alpha Gam is no different. Keep your heads up ladys , you gals will be great no matter what and you have my full support if you need it.

Very, very tacky. I'd say more, but I think my fellow GCers have said the same things I've been thinking. My hope is that your chapter never closes so that other people don't say the same things about YOUR organization.
I was very saddened to hear about Alpha's closing this morning. I had gotten up, did my morning email ritual, and I was very shocked to hear that our beloved Alpha chapter is closing.
Since this is a very sensitive subject to many of us AGDs, I encourage my sisters to discuss it further either in the AGD forum or on the AlphaGam.net message board.
Hang in there, sisters! I know that they'll be back!

K, while I feel sorry to see a chapter, any chapter close down, i have knowledge of the issues at AGD that a lot of you don't have, seeing as I was involved in the SU system for3 1/2 years, so speculation should stop. The fact is, the AGD alpha chapter has been in trouble for the last THREE years due to poor recruitment, reputation problems and poor internal leadership. Add to the fact that while they attempted to, their national organization was unable to do anything about the groups failure. There are plenty of solid girls in that chapter and it sucks to see them suffer for mitakes made by the chapter leadership years back, but this is just an example of how NOT to operate a chapter and is not a knock against those who legitimately tried to do something in a situation that was essentially hopeless because certain "leaders" neglected to realize the impact their actions would have on the younger sisters. This could happen to ANY chapter at ANY time. I'm sure they'll come back in a few years and kick ass, its happened before.

Im sorry to any AGD's who may/may not be losing their Alpha chapter. We just had out Pi Chapter re-installed at Sryracuse this semester. I know they said that the 3 Alphas there were all very strong (Alpha Phi, AGD and Gamma Phi Beta - the three NPC orgs I highlighted in a chapter newsletter this past issue!) I hope things work out and you can keep your Alpha. Our oldest chapter is Delta.
We lost our Alpha at Hunter, and our Alpha Alpha (after Hunter split and had a campus at Lehman college, we split our Alpha, and installed an Alpha Alpha in 1968. )

To all the Alpha Gams out there, I'm so sorry to hear about this! I hope your chapter will reopen. Our chapter at Syracuse closed in the late 90s, and has yet to be recolonized.
Good luck
