Is anyone here on panhellenic exec? I'm hoping to get involved soon, and would like some helpful hints or things you've learned along the way. Not to mention I'm just kind of curious who's involved with panhellenic, we hardly ever talk about it.

Heidi,
In college I was Panhellenic VP and President. As an alumna, I've served as Alumnae Panhellenic VP and currently as Alumnae Panhellenic President.
I forget where you go to school and how many chapters are on campus?

I was a Rho Chi and then on Exec for 3 years: Asst. VP, Rho Chi Director, and VP!
I loved EVERY minute, no matter how hard it was! Every year was different but still I learned so much about the system and all the groups that it was a great time. My best buds from school were on it with me and we still hang out...a ZTA and a DZ!
It was very intresting to work with NPC. They are an organzied group that has good communication with college PH as well. Our advisor is a Sigma NPC delegate so it was refreshing to see a council member that loved what she did as well.
It taught me how to look at the big picture of the Greek System and how each action of each group can affect the system. It also taught me how fraternities are a huge factor of our life, not just for socializing! It also helped me understand my organization better. I would LOVE to be NPC delegate some day...20 years from now, but for now Mrs. Bonnie Warren is doing a bang up job!
I was VP during the NPC resolution, that was difficult...I learned a lot, but had to put up with madness! I got a lot of slack from Fraternities more so than NPC groups!
Anyway, I could go on for days...good luck and keep us updated!

Although I'm not on Panhell, my best friend and sister, Jen is currently serving as secretary. From what she tells me, our Panhell is generally ineffective. When infractions come in, they are not often treated as they should be. Chapters do things they should lose a pledge class over, but only get a slap on the wrist. The members of Panhell work well together, but the advisor is pretty much a dictator. They also do not work with the IFC at all. However, she said that she enjoys it because she hears the campus's sorority news firsthand.
LexiKD: Have you met Bonnie before? She is a wonderful lady, and yes, she's doing an awesome job!

Yes I have met Mrs Bonnie! I have such KD stories that I could write a book! She is the greatest, not to mention Mrs. Stegall and Mrs. Nieman all together they are the most fun group out there!

Hey Moxiegrl
Thats so funny. My friend and sister JEN is also Panhell secretary.
She loves it, but also complains about finding convenient times for everyone, etc and how they are not so effective as well. She does like everyone on it, and has a really good time. This year for formal rush each sorority is going to have a delegate from another sorority in the rush room. They are trying to prevent any "dirty" rushing.
It is a great way to meet people though, I was on Junior a few years ago and I made a lot of friends in other sororities.
Good luck

I go to the University of Cincinnati and there are 6 sororities.
A few of you said you were "VP", do you have like President, VP, Treasurer, Secretary, so on and so forth? Here it's President, VP of Chapter Operations, VP of Inter-Greek Affairs, VP of Risk Management, VP of Recruitment, VP of Finance, and VP of Communications. Sorry if I forgot any. If you do it this way, what were/are you VP of? I have 2 positions that I'm very interested in, but don't want to curse myself by saying which ones

I was the Panhellenic Scholarship Chair and I absolutely loved it! At University of Texas, the Exec positions of Panhellenic rotate through the sororities on campus (President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary) so that every chapter has a chance of representation within the Panhellenic Council. The other Chair positions are elected from within the Panhellenic members, but these are limited to the representatives that don't already hold an Executive position.
Regardless, being on the Panhellenic Council was my personal favorite part of my involvement with Greek system. It was like being in a mini-sorority comprised of all the other Greek members. You spend so much time with each other, you make lasting friendships with all the other sorority members, and stereotypes or pre-conceived notions are thrown out the window! I highly recommend it to anyone who is thinking of getting involved, for those very reasons

I wasn't a Panhel officer, but I was my sorority's Panhel rep one year. I was a rho chi that same year. (Since we had fall rush, PXs disaffiliated only for the summer, so I was easily able to do both.) I absolutely LOVED meeting and working with women from the other sororities on my campus.
We had 5 sororities and 5 top exec positions (president, VP recruitment, VP exec, secretary, and treasurer), so each sorority held one exec position each year. There were other offices like social, housing, etc. that were generally open to any sorority member elected by Panhel (i.e. by the reps - one vote per sorority).
I never got involved on the alumna level, though - no time...

I was recently elected Treasurer of Panhel at Clarion...I am very excited about the possibilites! If you are worried about the actual election, I'm sure you will have to give a speech. Go in prepared and have a clear plan that you can share with the group. This will make you look professional and like you can handle the job. Good luck!

I was on Panhellenic and love it. I like knowing what's going on first hand and the other people in Panhellenic are so nice. I like it so much that I'm on it again this coming up year and hope to continue being on it as long as I can.
