UF Fall rush.....help?
Hey everyone!
I'm going to be a sophomore at UF for fall 2012 and I really want to rush. I'm pretty sure that there's a sophomore quota here now (could be wrong), but I still know that being a sophomore might limit my options. Basically, I just want an honest opinion about what to expect. Will I get cut from most of the houses (realistically)? You guys don't have to sugar-coat it or anything, I just want to know my chances.
I guess it's worth adding that I have a 3.75 GPA (which will hopefully increase by rush), am decently attractive (I have no idea if that matters), but I will probably have very few recs (I know this is bad). I don't know if any of this makes a difference.
I've read all of the UF rush stories so I have a general idea of the process, but aside from what I've seen on campus and what my sorority friends have told me, I am kind of clueless, so any info will help. Thanks in advance!

Since you've read the forums, there isn't much else to add. We don't give out chances.
Recs are important and you will seriously limit any opportunities by having only a few.
Good luck.

You're right - nobody can tell you. However, if you keep an open mind and are willing to accept EVERY chapter on campus, and you don't do anything dumb during rush (be rude, repeatedly stick your foot in your mouth) you should be able to find a home. But you have to work on those recs! You are a smart girl - you can figure this out. Start asking everyone and when you do find someone, ask them if they know women in any other sororities. This is great networking and conversation practice! When you really have used up all of your personal and 1st/2nd degree of separation contacts, then contact your local alumnae panhellenic to help fill in the rest.
Since you are a freshman now and presumably know girls in sororities now, ask them about it. No, in most cases active collegiate sorority women can't write recs but they may be able to direct you to someone who can. But this will do a couple things, including express your interest in rush and sorority membership to these girls who need to know this about you. Friends on the inside is probably the #1 most important thing.

This is a fantastic idea. The women from each chapter can probably introduce to you to local alums or members of their CAB. It also gets your name and resume in front of them before recruitment starts.
I wouldn't be shy about it. It's great to approach people you know, but if there is someone in a class that you have that you don't know, I'd approach her and introduce myself and then explain that I'm interested in formal recruitment, but I need recs for her group and does she know any alums in the area who could help me out.
