A Supportive College President
http://www.thelantern.com/campus/gee...more-1.2812129
Nice story about Ohio State and its president, Gordon Gee, who has publicly stated that he would like to see more growth in Greek Life. OSU's Greek Life numbers are currently up 73%.

OSU's previous president, Karen Holbrooke, is a Gamma Phi Beta. However, our OSU chapter has been closed for many years. Expansion there would be great!

I think that the big schools are beginning to understand the value of Greek life. There have been some hurdles because there is a way to have the benefit without the danger, literal danger, but that takes some work. If they can get all the alum money that studies say comes from Greeks, active student leadership and a reputation for fun PLUS ample on campus housing provided by someone else without having hazing tragedies, what's the down side? I think we're going to see growth in the Big 10, SEC, PAC 10, etc. for just this reason. If they can keep the negatives in check, there's plenty of reason for the administrations to be supportive.

I cannot believe big schools do not see the benefit of Greek Life. At smaller schools like mine, Greek Life is praised (and the SG leaders have been Greek for as long as people in my chapter can recall). I'm glad to see some support at bigger schools.
I still won't understand why some chapters don't like the IFC at their campus. That is confusing to me indeed.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought of Gordon Gee. He was also President at WVU and Vanderbilt at one time.
He was the keynote speaker at the Chi Omega Convention several years ago and was OUTSTANDING!

Pac 12 Can't speak for some of them, but I know the four in the NW have already been seeing steady growth over the last few years. Don't really know how the various presidents at our schools view Greek life on their campus.

Gee is a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha, initiated at the Univ. of Utah.

It is getting messy - but I'll say this for our conference - we can count, so at least our name matches our number.

OT- The Big Ten now has twelve teams in the conference. However, members have chosen to keep the traditional name.

Someone who starts college in the first year of the Pac 12, that's who!

I think I have to cry mea culpa. I suppose in a month when we're living in OC I'll start to get a handle on Pac everything.

Too bad Gee isn't as supportive of complying with NCAA regulations.
