What Do You Call Your Grandparents?

I thought I'd made a thread like this before! Several GCers know that I called my grandfather "Bimbo" and they think it's funny. One of my pledge sisters called her grandparents Per and Ganh. One local family calls their grandmas Red Granny and Blue Granny.

What do you call your grandparents?

I am GrandRose and my husband is Grand___ (his first name).

my grandparents were grand(mother)(father)___ name except for my mother's mother who refused to be called grandmother so we called her Nonie which was a diminutive of her name Leona. Came to be told later that that was a variation of grandmother in Italian.

My mother is Obbie to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (and SILs) , that being what the oldest grandchild came up with. :=)

My mother's parents were always Grandma and Grandpa. But my cousins and I call my father's mother, Yeya.

My father and my uncles referred to their mother as "la vieja." It wasn't mean-spirited; it was always out of love! And when I was a little girl I couldn't pronounce it, so Yeya just stuck.

Mine were grandma and grandpa.

My kids call husband's parents Abuelo and Abuela. My dad is Papa, my husband is Papí, and my mom is Bama (my daughter started that before she could say "grandma" and it stuck).

Although I never met my father's parents they were referred to as Bubbie and Zadeh. My mother's mom was Nonnie. No name for my mother's father.

My kids call my parents Gramma and Papa while they call my ex FIL and his wife Honey and Honeybear. They call my ex's mother Grandma _____(her name) although she died before either of them were born.

LOL! Our puluna (Hawaiian word for grandparents of the same children, she's our son-in-law's mom) wants her grandsons to call her Bama because she's a Bama fan but they don't call her anything yet. She thought that they should call me Abuela but they had other ideas.

One thing we've learned from many grandparents: if you have a name you really do or don't want the kids to call you, set the groundwork early. Since I didn't, I'm lucky that they started with GrandRose because I've heard some weird grandparent names.

Maternal grandparents were Grandma & Grandpa.

Paternal grandfather was Papa and maternal grandmother is Mimi. (She did not want us calling them Abuelo y Abuela cause she thought it made her sound old )

I hope that if/when I have grandchildren I can be Abuela/Abuelita.

My dad's parents were Granddaddy and Nona and my mom's mother was Granny. My mom's father passed before he had any grandchildren, so we just refer to him by his first name or Mr. LastName.

When I was born, my living grandparents were my paternal grandmother and my maternal grandfather. My grandmother was "Grandmommy." Everyone called my grandfather "Grandaddy" except for me. I called him "Grandpa." Well, when I was older. When I was little, I found out what I thought was his first name was actually his middle name. No one ever used his first name so, when I read it on his suitcase tag, it was like I found out a huge secret. To a 6yo, that's super exciting so I called him by it and he let me.

I want my grandchildren to call me Madea.

ETA: Oh and I just remembered. My grandmother's last husband was called "Uncle Firstname." I have NO idea why we had to call him uncle...maybe because he wasn't any of our grandfathers? IDK.

Grandmother/Grandaddy; Grandmother/Grandfather. We were very formal like that.

When my parents became grandparents, they weren't down with being called "Grandma/Grandpa," so they have pet names based on their real names. My niece and nephew call my dad "Daddy [his first name]," and I doubt any man I marry will be down with that. So it's likely that my kids will probably go to the Grandma/Grandpa route.
