Vanessa Bryant Files for Divorce

Vanessa Bryant filed papers in Orange County Superior Court in Santa Ana.
A representative for the couple released a statement saying, ''The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a Judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012.''

Based solely on what I have read over the years:

After more than 10 years, it's about time. Perhaps she was waiting for her daughters to be old enough and for the money to marinate a bit more. Well played, Vanessa Bryant, well played.

I read about this earlier today. I think I feel kinda sorry for Kobe ... But he did the kind of cheating she claims he did, then what did he expect?

Maybe, ... but the children still seem rather young. I would imagine divorce at any age would be difficult for them. And no prenup, either? I thought Kobe was smarter than that.

There's no pre-nup. They are California residents, so after the 10 year mark she gets half of everything. Back a big truck up to the vault and load it up.

Too true. Mrs. Bryant ... excuse me, **reverting** Ms. Laine, is not stupid.

California is a community property state so, whether they were married 10 years or 72 days, Vanessa would still get half since they don't have a pre-nup.

10 years, however, is considered a "long-term" marriage in California. That means that, when calculating spousal support, that the court cannot terminate spousal support on a specific date. She's never had a career, so spousal support will probably last longer than if they had been married 5 years and she had been a stockbroker beforehand.

I agree with you, but how did you get from Munchkin's post to your statement?

Sen is gay and heterosexual couples in California apparently have a lot of protections in terms of divorce.
