If Transfer, going Active?
I have been debating transfering for awhile now. Both schools I consider transfering to (for Spring 2012 or Fall 2013) both have my group. How exactly would I go about becoming an active, and possibly living in the house, if you believe that would even be possible? Is it as simple as contacting the president/house president to work all that out, or is there something in the vein of gaining acceptance that you can imagine?

1. I thought you were a freshman? You're already transferring?
2. You need to ask your senior members or advisors.

I know that for Kappa Sigma, we have a transfer paper that has to be filled out; however, your organization might not have that. I would just talk to your E-Board if you decide to transfer.

Thats probably what I'll end up doing, talking it out with the E-Board once I have my 60 credits and have decided what to do. As of now, the path I am going will have me with 60 credits by start of Spring 2012.
Also remember Greek Life where I'm at is kinda small, and it is a commuter school. Classes are also pretty easy for me, I got a 3.9 first semester, while a lot of my friends barely pulled in a 3.0

Just looked it up on our national website, two criteria would be needed. One would be something stating I left in good standard, and the second would be a chapter vote. My next question is exactly what could come up that would have a chapter not allow in a member who was in good standing at his old chapter?

Why don't you just call your HQ or whatever regional officer is over your chapter? That way you'll find out what YOU NEED to do - not what other groups do or other people who aren't in authority have to say.

I looked in the Constitution, it says you need to have left in good standard and get a majority chapter vote. But why would a chapter not accept a brother who was in good standing?
Also, do you think it would be better to take a semester off fraternity wise to meet the brothers, then go active (or attempt to) next semester? All if I decide to transfer.

Guess best thing to do is meet people at convention and make a name for myself in my own chapter. Thanks for the help GC.

How selective they're going to be is really going to depend on the school. I haven't seen this brought up before regarding fraternities but there are several related threads about NPC sorority transfers. And in those cases, you are NOT a shoo in. The fear, beyond huge numbers, is girls pledging crapola chapter, initiating and then transferring to superstar SEC chapter. I wouldn't imagine the same issues would necessarily apply for men, but they still might not want to take any member they wouldn't have pledged the first time around, even if you're not a douche.
If you have the opportunity to meet the guys prior to all of this, it might be helpful - from your end too. You might decide going alum is the better choice regardless of what they think.

I don't know much about AEPi's official policy, and certainly there are some very strong chapters nationally, but from what I do know of the fraternity, it is obviously historically Jewish, and has served a different role over the years than many other organizations. As such, I think that the "pledge crap chapter and transfer" thing is far, far less common, and my guess would be that their transfer process is likely one that gives a guy the benefit of the doubt.

I'm an AEPi brother. My chapter requires a letter of good standing and a 2/3's vote in your favor. I know that in the times we've had a transfer there hasn't been any question about letting them in. Keep in mind that some chapters are much more Jewish than others. I'd say you should visit the chapter when you visit the school you transfer and also find out if any brothers live near you (and try to meet up with any who do). I wouldn't worry about waiting a semester though. Hope it goes well. ESPONDA
