Destiny

After reading JAM's post on the elite sororities I must concer that being a 30something, I have NEVER been asked what sorority I was in during a job interview, cocktail party, etc.

However, I often wonder if I had gone XYZ instead of ABC, if my life would have taken a different turn. Perhaps I would have not taken the dead beat jobs right after college, I would have developed a hobby, etc.

Do you guys ever wonder about that?

I will be honest and I often do.

It's not so much that I wonder if being in the TOP chapter at my school (but there is a tiny bit of that) but being in a completely different sorority, with completely different women, I may have turned into a completely different person.

I changed and developed so many of my tastes in college that I think of what "May have been."

Any thoughts?

That could be true. Being in different situations would have affected you in a different way, but only to a certain point I think. You cant really second guess anything you did since its already done and nothing will change it. But you can use what you learned from the experiences/reflections to change how you live/feel now and in the future. From my own personal experience, dwelling on the past only leads to problems and in a sense, it keeps you in the past, where you dont want to be.

It would have changed my life if I was not a KD. I have met some of the most amazing women and learned so much from them that I cannot say it hasn't changed my life for the better. I feel blessed for the experiences and oppurtunites KD has given me and to say if I was a XYZ and that I would be the same is not respecting what I have received from my membership.

If you joined the best on your campus or the worst, how were they nationally, what type of programming do they have, what type of alumnae activites are avaliable? Just because your chapter was great in college doesn't mean much after.

I posted earlier regarding the "elite" question and I still stand by it, some groups are stronger and that carries into alumnae life as well. It means is is always changing for the better, if there was not a distinction, no one would strive to become better.

So many groups means so many different leadership styles, anything could have been different. I think if you enjoy your Greek life you would have enjoyed it no matter the letter, but any one thing could have changed your path...from the job you work to the city you live; anything could have been different if your affliation was different!
