Thumbs up Statistics

This is just an FYI for everyone... you know all of those statistics you hear about the benefits of greek life? Well, I can never remember them, or where I last saw them, whenever I could actually use them. Greek 101.com has several posted in the "Lounge" section of their site. I copied them here, but they've got some other cool stuff, too, that you might want to check out.

Thought everyone could use these for various (RUSH) things! And add any other (confirmed) stats you want!!

People who either don't know any better or were not in a fraternity or sorority, always seem to have something negative to say about greek life. It is our opinion and a proven fact that Fraternities and Sororities provide a fun environment, where leadership and social skills are fostered and developed. These organizations produce graduates who are assets to the society in which we all live and belong. With that in mind, the following is some information to put things into perspective:

The first general fraternity (Kappa Alpha Society) was organized in 1750.

Of North Americas 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by Fraternity men and Sorority women.

7 out of 10 people listed in Who's Who are Greek.

85% of Fortune 500 executives belong to a Fraternity or Sorority.

40 of 47 Supreme Court Justices since 1910 were Fraternity men.

76% of all Congressmen and Senators belong to a Fraternity or Sorority.

Every US President and Vice-President, except two in each office, born since the first social Fraternity was founded in 1825, and 3 Canadian Prime Ministers, have been members of a Fraternity. Statistics show that Fraternity and Sorority members have a higher rate of graduation from college than do their non-member counterparts.

Hi Turtle,

I have also read that Greek alumni tend to donate to their college alumni associations/foundations at a higher rate than non-Greeks.

Question

DeltAlum,

Do you remember where you read that? I've heard the same statistic, but would like to know where it came from. THANKS!

This may not be the same place where Delt Alum acquried his information. It's a statistics page on the Wilfred Laurier Greek website:

That statistic came from a joint study commissioned by NPC and NIC a few years ago that talked about the values and benefits of Greeklife. NPC used to have the study posted on their web site but it has since been removed. Maybe you can contact them to get a copy. www.npcwomen.org

Rose,

The two posts above are easier to find. I saw it on one of the Delt Chapter websites -- South Dakota, I think. I linked to it from the main Delt website www.delts.org.
