FIJI ?

So FIJI is recolonizing my school so they are recruiting founding fathers. I am considering it. Do you guys know much about FIJI's characteristics in general ? Like how the guys are and what are they focusing on as their goals ?

Thanks a bunch.

Real answer:

Read any of the other threads on this site about fraternities/sororities and see that they have multiple chapters with multiple reputations and personalities. There is no in general.
If I was to hazard a guess on Phi Gamma Delta's goals it would be something along the lines of:

"promote lifelong friendships, to reaffirm high ethical standards and values, and to foster personal development in the pursuit of excellence"
and
"to provide opportunities for each brother to develop responsibility, leadership, scholarship, and social skills in order to become a fully contributing member of society"

Quotes are from the mission on their website.

That comes from their mission. Honestly, go talk to the guys who are recolonizing and talk to them about what it means to be a founding father. It is an entirely different job than being a member who joins an existing chapter. It requires a lot more work, but some would argue you could get more out of it.

Bottom line: talk to the guys who are recolonizing.

If you don't have the energy to simply Google the main Phi Gamma Delta website which would give you their ideals and general goals, then you probably don't have the energy to be a founding father.

Maybe there are some misunderstandings here. It is not that I do not want to put in the energy. In fact, I have done a lot of research on their website. I just want to have different opinions since I am new to the whole process. THey can say whatever they want but what I want to know is whether it is going to be true.

Can't speak for every chapter they have, but the FIJI's at Auburn are great guys. Do a lot in the community and for the University.

For some members, yes. For some members, no. The FIJI men that I've known over the years are fabulous.

I'm stepping out of my lane, but I'm sure what FIJI would want to know before giving you the opportunity to join their brotherhood would be will it be true for you? Colonization isn't for sissies.

The concept that organizations differ at different campuses is one of the most truthful statements out there.

Having co-founded a chapter of another national fraternity and also seeing some recolonized chapters, it really is a fact that only the stuff on the fraternity's national website applies. Everything else is a clean slate that you get to influence. That's what being a co-founder is about: you're not just joining an organization, you're building one. There's a tremendous amount of responsibility for each co-founder to ensure that they build a sustainable organization that they'll be proud to look back on years in the future.

So, the questions for you are: Can you live up to this? Do you find FIJI's national goals compatible with yours? Are you ready to be part of something in which you will have a huge amount of influence on its culture, traditions, and reputation?

As a founding father of a Phi Gam colony. I can say it's been one of the most rewarding, and challenging experiences I've had. But our fraternity's international reputation, one-of-a-kind scholarship ($250 for all new members with a 3.0 and above), and great leadership programs make FIJI a solid choice in my mind.

Yes, the good news/bad news is you get to develop your own reputation. Although I have a perception of a Fiji in my head, if you are not that guy, your colony will probably not develop that rep.
