I joined my sorority last fall but i was away from school last year during elections b/c i was really sick so this is my first time being present for elections. I am running for exec and i have to write a statement that will be handed out to everybody and then give a speech at the next chapter, except i don't have any idea what the statement is supposed to say? i am probably running for risk management and communications. HELP! what do people usually say, I am nervous

I would read the officer descriptions and see how to direct the letter based on your qualifications. I'm not sure what the Comm. office would be b/c organizations have different titles for the same job. The Risk Mgmt might be more stressful since you would be responsible if something goes wrong if the right authorization wasn't given???

Anyway, good luck!

I need help regarding elections too. I kinda need some encouragement and some tips. Our elections already passed and I really wanted to get an office but I didn't even get nominated. We are a local sorority so we may hold elections again if and when we go national so basically my question is how do I get people's attention so that they will nominate me? I was not nominated for one office and it made me feel that all I did for my sorority those 2 semesters kinda didn't mean anything and was not even important. I'll admit I slack sometimes with my study hours and I may not go to EVERYTHING, but I do go to most fuctions regardless of whether they are mandatory and I do my study hours on a semi regular basis. And when I don't do htem its most likely because I'm doing other things with/for my sorority so as you can see I'm very dedicated and I think that being nominated and elected for an office would be a reward and a chance to further my dedication through an office. So please give me some tips on how to be noticed, nominated and elected. I'm pretty much over the fact that I didn't get nominated this year but I was extremely upset and felt that noone ever noticed me and that what I do for the sorority doesn't matter. I've been meaning to ask for ya'll's advice since ya'll have given others great advice and helped greatly so I look forward to reading ya'll's replies.

Elections

In regards to elections! I think that the best way to get nominated for a position is to make it known that you want the position. For example, if you are talking with friends or other chapter members about elections mention that you would like to run for whatever position it is that you would like. Also, asking the current officers in the positions what their position involves is also a good indicator that your interested in the position. This will make the officer stop and think well wow she came to me and asked questions she must really be interested. I think that if you do this you are sure to be nominated. Also, maybe simply asking a friend to nominate you for a position may be a good route to take. When sisters in my chapter are interested in positions they simply tell friends to nominate them or in our chapter we even have sisters who nominate themselves.

I hope that these suggestions were somewhat helpful! It sounds to me like you are a great member and your chapter would be lucky to have you in any position.

Good Luck
