Org Branding

I feel out of the loop. Is it re-branding season?? I noticed Beta Theta Pi, ASA and AGD all have done a big re-branding of their logo, etc. and I've heard there's more orgs on the horizon doing the same. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for updating a logo, just wondering why so many at once. Am I missing something?

And on a side note, I'm really impressed with ASA. A brand standards document, color palette, and PPT template. Way cool.

Not sure why so many at once, but the timing of the launch might be due to the beginning of rush season.

It's gonna take some time before I'm 100% behind the new AGD brand. Love the meaning behind it, I just miss my buff rose.

I think its cyclical....

We did ours a few years ago....and it seems to be a "new trend" to base the branding and tagline on "mission, purpose, creed", etc....at least that is the way I see it....

that is not to say the old brands were not like that...but I recall a thread here on GC discussing, brands and taglines and how the trend then was 3 "strong" words...

Sigma happens to use 3 strong words, that is formulated from our Mission Statement.

I don't think its time for re-branding, but I do think its time for a redesign of our website.

This isn't where I thought this thread was going.

I'm replying, though, so that the little arrow will show up in front of the thread for me. This seems like it'll be interesting.

LOL.

It took me a minute to get what they're talking about.

Yeah, I can see where you thought it was going I hope it sticks with this topic though and doesn't accidentally veer towards the other type of branding...

Do most orgs who've rebranded in recent years not have a style guide, etc? Even Gamma Phi Beta has those things, and I think we lag behind many others when it comes to branding.

I want all the rebranding to slow down. Like, I don't know, I'm no advertising executive, but I think re-branding should only happen once in a lifetime.

If that.

I have to admit I haven't kept up with other GLOs' rebranding efforts, so I may be off base --

I think keeping websites and others designs fresh is a good thing. As long as the "new" still calls back to the "old" in a respectful manner, it shows that the brand is still alive and growing.

So, if ODPhi (for example) went from red/silver/black to green/beige/blue in all of our branding efforts, that would be a problem. There's nothing to call back to the previous incarnation. If we went from silver font in the logo to black font, though, I don't see a huge issue with that.

Do you mean, did we not have one before we rebranded? We had one then and we have one now.

That's what I suspected. That stuff (style and usage guidelines, PMS colors, etc.) is pretty standard for branding efforts.

I don't think re-branding should be done frequently. To do so undermines the effort - it takes a while for people to integrate the new branding, then even longer for outsiders to recognize it. I do think that websites and other technologies can be refreshed often without "rebranding."

I have two brands. One on my left arm that says Phi Nu Pi, and on my right arm, I have the diamond. It didn't even hurt when I got hit with it either. I had to put some ice on it to keep the swelling down though.
