AMHERST - The University of Massachusetts fraternity where a student was injured in a fall this spring has been placed on emergency suspension by its national headquarters.

Daniel J. Fitzgibbons, a UMass spokesman, said the university received a letter from the national headquarters of the Delta Upsilon fraternity saying it took that action against the organization's local chapter . . . .

the university has also placed Delta Upsilon under the status of "interim expulsion/loss of recognition." . . .

This saddens me. Sad situation all the way around.

I hope that guy pulls through. It seems like overkill to pull a charter like that with both the HQ and the university breathing down the chapter's neck, but I guess both wanted to show they are both serious in not allowing underage drinking to go on, regardless if the guy is Greek.
