Houston radio station slams sororities

Please feel free to let them know how you feel about this:

On Monday, August 1, 2011, the Roula and Ryan Show said "being in a sorority means you are perceived to be a slut" And that all sorority women are "Blond, Busty and Brainless." They used "slut" and sorority in conjuction with one another at least 3 separate times. If you don't listen that's fine, but please know that PNM's and their mother's do. With 1.2 million people in the Houston area listening, KRBE Radio is a top tier station for women 18 to 54 years of age. Please contact them to let them know that this is unacceptable. Their boss, Leslie Whittle had this to say "...I think we gave potential rushees valuable insight into what they can expect during the process. Not all of it was pretty, but it came from people who had witnessed or been through the process...I think we did a good job covering all sides of an interesting subject." None of the callers who were negative stated what sororities they were members of - which leads us to wonder if these women are actual members of npc groups.
Please contact her and her boss, Jan Jefferies and let them know that you disagree. What was presented was biased, degrading and offensive. At no time would they be allowed to go on the air and state that any ethnic or racial group was all perceived as sluts or that they were all brainless, so why is it okay for a top rated radio morning show to say that sorority women are?
You may contact Leslie Whittle at (leslie.whittle@cumulus.com) and Jan Jefferies (this is a man at jan.jefferies@cumulus.com). You may also post on the stations facebook page (however they may delete or hide your post). The page is 104.1 KRBE. And of course you may e-mail the website at morningshow@104krbe.com. Or even make your voices heard at 713-278-VENT.

Actually, it's more distressing to me that they're referring to women, any women, regardless of whether or not they're sorority members, as sluts.

This is a point I made in my e-mail - "Slut" is simply not acceptable to apply to any group of women.

I think it goes without saying that not every woman, and sorority woman, is a slut.

The bigger point that some people will miss (because they will be too busy announcing that they are not a slut) is that they will lose listeners if they don't officially apologize. Perhaps they should lose listeners regardless.

Yes - I quoted the e-mail I received, but will now edit it.

It might be more effective to call up and tell them you ARE a slut (assuming it's true), that it's nothing to be ashamed of, and that one of the best things in the entire world is enjoying sex with men too attractive to be stuck on daytime talk radio.

Even though the Houston Slutwalk was a month ago, perhaps there needs to be Slutwalk 2.0 outside of the station?

1. Depending on the definition you use - for example, #3 in Merriam-Webster's is "saucy woman". I am saucy, but don't fit definitions #1 and 2, so I'd be lying.
2. I wrote as the president of my alumnae panhellenic - so there's that.
3. Gotta pick your battles - my hope is that perhaps they will decide using the word "slut" is simply too problematic.

I knew those weren't your words. I was moreso amused by the person who sent the email.

Regardless of whether being a female slut or male slut is a good thing or anyone's business, there are sluts and there are nonsluts--either self-professed or labeled as such. The slut part is less interesting than the overall tone and what the angry listeners are going to do about it. If the angry people were never loyal listeners in the first place (if you only know about this because you read about it as I did), this could be another instance of how any publicity can be good publicity.

Well, I think college students will have more pull than alumnae, although the point I made was that I would contact advertisers. As of yet it hasn't been picked up by any local media - just through word of mouth with alumnae groups.

Now I may be wrong, but I feel as though Greek Life is fairly... not common but not unusual in Texas. I often hear of Houston Panhell, alum associations and sorority actives in general on GC from Houston area and Texas.
With that in mind, isn't this a horrible idea to discriminate against a group of women who are prevalent in the community or are daughters/wives of members in the community?

Hell hath no fury like a sorority woman scorned.

Wow, won't George B. be shocked to learn that about Laura and his 2 daughters! Can't remember if Barbara B. is in a sorority.
