Formal!

Where are you going, what are you wearing, and what are you playing?

We're going to Canada, we just do suit & tie rather than tux, and I'm looking for a list of songs to play as we speak. I've got 68 songs in my list that I want to hear (note, I'm not Dj, just bored, so I'm going to provide a phat list of tracks cause our Dj is only mediocre at best). I figure that is pretty close to being sufficient. What are some good (to put it bluntly) love making songs? I've got some phat ones already, Chris Isaak and Dave Matthews, but we always need lovemaking songs. Also, what's good on the radio right now?

Well I don't remember where exactly we are going for our formal, but I do know that it's at some hotel in downtown Indianapolis. I'm wearing my blue strapless gown that I wore to my senior prom. (However I would like to say that my pledge name is Flash because of that darned dress! At my prom I was doing the YMCA..and...well you can figure it out! ) I'm sure my boyfriend will a kick out of that. Anyway, the price for our formal is pretty cheap. I will only have to play 12 dollars for my bf and I.

Our formal is this Saturday and I'm so excited. We are having it at the zoo in town. I know it sounds weird but we had ours there last fall also and it is beautiful.. They have it all decorated with Christmas lights for the holidays. And the food is really good too. I am wearing a purple floor length dress. I'm excited that formal time is already here. Can't wait to hear about other peoples.

Crazy.

Our formal is this saturday too...it's at the BK Club up in Mishawaka, which I've never been to so I can't describe it.
I'm taking Jason and I have no idea really what I'm wearing.
Probably my gray velvet dress, off shoulder, and it's diagnol across the bottom hem.

It's really pretty.

we pay 35 bucks for ours.

I was formal chair this semester - we're having ours in the Player's Club Room (only half-kidding w/ that name . . . ), at the Back Bay Hilton in downtown boston here. . . pretty sweet.

That's the up and the down of being in the city - we don't have to 'go anywhere' for formal . . . I sort of wish it were more of a trip, rather than hopping into a bus and heading to a top floor of a building by the water.

Anyway - fall is black-tie, spring is semiformal, usually a 'cruise' on the harbor.

As far as songs, I'm sure you've already got the standard stable going - some DMB, Sinatra (esp 'way you look tonite'), 'Wonderful tonight', etc . . . we also rely heavily on Louie, Louie and Volcano (buffett) for entertainment as well.

We're lucky though - we have a 'real' DJ who's alumni from U of Maine that hooks us up for formals . . . basically works for drinks. He's awesome.

Our formal is tomorrow night and I don't know if I'm going to make it through this weekend. Went to Alpha Phi formal last night, it was awsome - I think I'm still drunk right now writing this, and it's not even 10 in the morning. So I might not remember writing this. But it was fun.

It was funny though, because both Alpha Phi and us are having our formal at the same place - so, if I had my tux with me, I could have passed out there, woken up and put on my tux and went to our formal. I also warned the bartender that us Kappa Sigs would be back tonight.

Didn't go

Formal this year was $110 since we no longer have formal included in dues bc it used to be that if you didn't make grades you couldn't go to formal- became an issue of hazing bc girls who didn't make dues were still paying for formal.
I also didn't know any guys who'd go with me.
I think any songs that get people to dance are good. If no one is dancing then 1) the dj sucks or 2)They aren't drunk enough to dance I know my ex didn't dance until he was wasted- oh if you could only see my sisters reactions...

Our formal was held the first weekend of this month... it was at Cliffbreakers Hotel in Rockford,IL, about an hour or so from campus. It was way beautiful! Guys just do the coat and tie thing, not a tux. Girls wear regular homecoming/prom dresses. I wore this new red Chinese dress, but the slits on the sides were higher than usual .

Our favors included a glass picture frame, and a beer mug.

by the way, ours was 25$ a person ( i went with my (new) boyfriend). We didn't have an open bar, so u still had to pay for your drinks but it was cool coz the bartender didn't card--not even me, and i look 18 but im 20--anyway about favors i think i like last year's the best, we had one of those pewter cover photo albums with our letters engraved on it, and the cover is like a picture frame, and then of course you can store your other pictures inside coz its an album...i liked it only coz i think glassware is too overdone!

For Spring Fling earlier this year (a non formal, themed dance) we had a Hawaiian theme and so our favor was a white pillowcase and it had our letters on it with palm trees, and it said "WEt dreams in a Hawaiian paradise 2001"

Just curious--do you guys ever have problems at formal? We always have people getting kicked out for being to drunk and someones date breaks something. And if one sorority or fraternity does something wrong, the place will no longer rent to any GLO. So, the list gets smaller and smaller where we can go every year.
I am old and alum, but my last formal we had at the Chapel Hill Sheraton and it was really pretty. And we had cups and t-shirts. Semi was at the Burlington Best Western(and it may be there many more times because we broke nothing and were invited back ) and I think it was frames and t-shirts. I LOVED formals--I think they were so much fun!!

Sigma Kappa Fall Formal 2001 was this past Saturday at Knott's Berry Farm and the hotel right next door. It was so beautiful....
It was a total silver and gold theme and we got these great beer steins that say Sigma Kappa Formal 2001.
I loved my dress.....it was this gorgeous Nicole Miller number that was cinderella blue. I got some rock star clear "glass slipper" heels to wear with it and had a blue crystal headband in my hair.....it looked like a little tiara.

Anywho......that wasn't the best part of the night......my boyfriend gave me a promise ring after he was named to our Pearl Court.

He also hinted that there may have to be a candle pass in my immediate future.

Love In Sigma,

Lil Snakey K

Our formal was ridiciulous. The room was amazing, there was a crapload of food (including a steamship of beef - yes, a STEAMSHIP of beef), and the staff at the hotel was really cool. A bunch of us had been there the night before for a sorority formal, so we knew one of the bartenders and he hooked us up with a few beers. My date was a whole lot of fun, and we did a whole lot of drinking - basically cleared out the bar after they told us we couldn't.

At one point I thought I lost my tuxedo jacket - I freaked out and explained the situation to one of the security guards, at which point he asked "Son, have you been drinking?" There was a waterfall on one of the walls, so we also decided it would be a good idea to spray the water all over each other.

Amazing time.

I'm old and alum, too, AOPiLala, but I don't recall any of our formals getting rowdy while I was there. No fights that I can remember, and we never had a problem renting out the Holiday Inn ballroom year after year.

The only instance I can think of is a pre-formal that we had at a local bar during my sophomore year. The manager got mad because 4 people (count 'em, FOUR) were tossing peanuts at each other. (They were trying to catch them in their mouths.) He wouldn't let us hold a pre-formal there again because we were too "messy". The whole thing was laughable. The only people who really lost out in the end were the owners of the bar.

It wasn't an extremely popular place. In fact, we only reserved it because the other bars didn't want to close their doors to everyone except us and our dates on a busy Friday night. The place probably made more off of us that night on food and drinks than it would in a normal week! Talk about a bad business move on their part!
