rush prep question

Hey all,

I’ll be rushing at Alabama next month. I have many concerns. However, the one at the top of my list this week is my major. Nursing! I understand that your last 2 years of the program are extremely busy. Will sororities view this as a negative and a reason to drop me during rush?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Heavens no! I know many women who have majored in nursing there.

FWIW, a co-worker of mine has a daughter who recently graduated from UA in nursing and is a Phi Mu.

In fact, when asked what your major is you could say "nursing and I would love to chat with one of your sisters in that program if one is close by." (you don't want her to haveto drag you all over the house with 200 people in it to find Nancy Nurse.)

My daughter rushed last year as a Nursing major (at another SEC school). Depending on the chapter she visited they paired her with other Nursing majors in the chapters to facilitate conversation flow. She has since changed her major to pre-med, but her Big Sis remains a Nursing major. I remember back in my college days that the Nursing majors could always be found studying at the sorority house dining room tables. (especially the last two years of the program). Good luck to you!

My older sister is a nurse and an AOII. In her pledge class there was another student who was also in her nursing school class and served as our chapter president at the same time. A sister a year ahead of them was in the same class in nursing school so you could always find them together studying. I don't think any sorority discounts women in difficult majors. They expect you to balance the two. We all want alumnae that are professional women.

I went to a school where everyone had a demanding major. Minors and double majors were also common. I majored in computer science and minored in economics. Some of my sisters majored in chemistry, mechanical engineering, mathematics...

Time management is the key. As long as you come across as being able to handle your coursework, sorority obligations, any other obligations you may have (clubs, sports, etc.), and a social life (oh yes, and sleep) you won't have a problem with recruitment. Of course, if you actually do pledge, you'll have to deliver
