the Double Standard between gay and straight men
All of the following scenarios are real, none of the stories you're about to hear have been fabricated or altered, the names have been changed to protect the identities of the victims...
scenario one: coming into work one day, jack begins his shift to work at a pub. He enters the kitchen to tuck in his shirt when Willy the dishwasher steps forward to welcome him...jokingly Jack states that Willy should not be checking him out, after all Jack is tucking in his shirt.
At that time Mr. X (a cook that works with Jack) comes over and states, "Yeah Willy, that's my lunch..."
at which Jack runs away at a high pitched scream and has never been the same since.
scenario two: finishing up a busy lunch over, Jack makes a comment about the laziness of one of his particular co-workers to John Doe (another cook), at which point Willy comes over and makes a quick remark that Jack should resume his work. Jack, never one to accept random criticism jokes that Willy should be careful or POW....in turn generates a reply by Willy that Jack would have to bend over to strike him....Hearing this, Mr. X steps forward and states that he is good at bending over and would like to bend over for Jack - in which case Jack throws up all over the daily special....
Question - does anyone agree that a double standard exists between the accepted behavior of homosexuals and heterosexuals? Jack feels that if comments of this nature were made by a straight man upon a woman, Jack would be in Jail right now eating some other guy's junk.

If a situation exists that makes someone uncomfortable, I would speak to a supervisor. As the US Supreme Court declared three years ago that sexual harassement can be same sex based or different sex based. Basically its a non-gender specific issue. At the point the situation is at now, the employeer is liable if they do not act to stop it, once informed. I gurantee they will want to stop it. Anyone who has sat through sexual-harassment workshops will agree. The employeer would be liable for hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages if they didnt act.
Sexual Harassment is wrong in any case.

I think there is a double a double standard. Any comments like that are sexual harassment and should not be allowed period.

I have to agree with Ex on this one, A sexual advance or unappropriate behavior should not be tolerated whether it be a heterosexual situation or a homosexual situation.
Allowing such situations to continue , only creates tension in the work place and more added drama that really isn't needed, ya know!

Thanks for the advice GC veterans
Only you guys really knew how to handle a Lil_G thread.
In this case, what happens to Jack is not isolated. Mr. X commits this behavior to everyone and is generally considered harmful. I geuss that's why it's not considered imporant. And, worker morale is very low, it seems everyone there wants out, something like this wouldn't be top priority.
Although partly intended as a joke, I wanted to bring up something that i consider a valid point. To give the "out of control anti-hazing" as an example, i think when society wants to prevent something negative from happening, too much bureaucracy causes the original objection to be lost. Instead of not wanting to appear discriminatory vs gays, a straight person would just ignore a comment like this and behavior of gay individuals.
