Based on the book by Dumas (author of Three Musketeers and a relative of Tigergirl).
Basic premise: Man is betrayed by his friend out of jealousy for his beautiful Fiancee and placed in a French Prison for years(he's innocent). He comes out and becomes "the Count of Monte Cristo" and plots revenge on the people that stole his life.
Hurtful thing: His Fiancee marries his best friend (the one that had him falsely put away) after only . . . drum roll please . . . 1 month! Faithless bitch . . .
Great scene/line: Years later when he resurfaces in their lives, he does a service for her son (no one recognizes him after 13 years in prison) and she says: "Sir for what you have done I will never forget you" You can also tell by her expression that she kind of recognizes him but isn't quite able to place it right away. He replies: "Madam, it was nothing, in a month you will not remember it or me". Great line. I am paraphrasing though .. .
Anyway they did a really good job with the movie, its very entertaining. Go see it.
