It's been 25 years since Chernobyl

In 1997, 11 years after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, photojournalist Paul Fusco traveled to the area to document the horrific effects of radiation its people.

Hopefully this isn't the case with Japan, but I know some experts are saying that they may have to do the same thing.

Powerfully moving and heartbreaking. I don't know enough to comment on genetic mutation post-radiation exposure. However, I am gravely concerned for any and all pregnant women in Japan who've been exposed to radiation. Hell, I'm concerned for all people, period.

During heavy coverage of the Japan tragedy, they were showing current Chernobyl pics. So incredibly sad.

Acute:
Chernobyl was a catastrophic preventable tragedy. While tragic and scary, Fukushima is not.

Chronic:
Chernobyl still is a catastrophe (the documentary Chernobyl Heart broke my own). It remains to be seen if the Fukushima disaster will be on the same level. In my experience, I don't think it will.
