what are my chances at Bama frats?
I'm a junior at a private Catholic school in Los Angeles. I have a 3.7 GPA from last semester but only like a 3.2 cumulative. I really don't want to attempt to join a preppy frat, as I don't think I'd fit in there very well. I'm white(I've heard that's pretty relevant when it comes to UA frats), athletic, and love hunting and fishing. I'm from an upper-middle class household(heard this is important too).
What fraternities at the University of Alabama would take me/be good for me? I don't want to come off as shallow, I'm just talking about things that I know some frats care about.
Thanks guys!

^^ You're a junior. You have a year. Worry about it later.

Fraternities are going to play a role in choosing my college though, and I'm probably going to do early admissions this summer

Right. Ok with the name and the attitude - picked a school yet not deciding yet... right - I call troll early this time.

you're so cool. I hope someday I can post 12,128 times on a website for college kids. I hope I can be a "has-been" when I grow up!

Don't make college decisions based on fraternities. You are going to college to get an education, not to join a fraternity.
That being said, we do not discuss the reputations of organizations or chapters on GreekChat, nor can we tell you what your chances of getting a bid are because we don't know you, and are not the members of the chapter who are making such decisions.

It's only going to play a pretty small part in the decision, thanks for the straightforward answer though

Honestly it shouldn't play any part. You go to school to get an education, and everything else is just gravy.

Just so you know, most of the members of GC are actually Alumni in their various organizations. Some of them are among the best in what they do for a vocation. So check your attitude at the door. You are a junior, and already seem to know what school you want to go to. So why ask for specific info on particular fraternities if you weren't a troll.

I'm asking for specific info on fraternities at Alabama because I don't know the answer? Isn't it obvious?
And calling someone a "troll" is the dumbest insult ever. Sorry if I don't have enough time to spend hours on a forum every day for the past 6 years... Shame on me

do you have relatives who live in the south that you visit often? have your visited bama yet?
The bama culture is going to be very different than the los angeles culture(perhaps bordering on culture shock). besides that, tuscaloosa is a small town.

Disagree. I think academics are the first priority but often you have multiple colleges that can cater to your academic path and choosing based on an opinion of the area/social scene/general feel of the school becomes very relevent. Being happy socially (Greek organizations fall here) is in many ways just as important as academic endeavors, and if not, the health of social happiness/general happiness with life can greatly affect academic success. My 12 cents

I've got plenty of family in Florida and Texas. I've been and I love it. With all the traffic and other crap, I'm 100% sure I won't regret leaving California. I love the Southern culture

As a native Californian, having spent time in several Southern states, I can confidently tell you this: Florida and Texas are NOT Alabama. And you may "love the Southern culture" but the more important question is this: how will the ladies and gentlemen of the South view YOU?
Please spend some time simply reading and researching on GC. And, work on that GPA, you'll be grateful that you did.
As a much wiser person* once said, "Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment."
Good luck.

I would agree with this. There is more to what makes a good fit in a school than academics, though they should certainly be the first priority. For example, all of the grad schools I applied to had large football programs; it wasn't the end all be all of my decision, but it was something I was looking for in terms of fit and university culture.
