President?

I got nominated for our Archon last night...aka president...

I am really nervous about running and worried that it will become a popularity contest. I am now our Membership Orientation Chair (aka I teach the new members) and Im damn good at that, Im nominated for that too... but I really want Archon, and if people dont think about competency and only about who they like, I wont get it. I have been in since Spring 00, I know the most about the sorority... I love it, and I think I would be the best for the job....

What should I do?

Just tell them about your qualities as a president would be. Then make them think about the other canidates and how well they would run it. If they are not as qualified as you make them to be then you should win easily. Try to get the girls that nominated you to back you up.

The best thing you can do is make sure everyone knows how much heart you have to put into it! Show your confidence and don't be afraid to admit just how qualified you are. If you don't show it, no one else is going to do it for you! The trick is to do it without being arrogant, though....its a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Best of luck to you, I'm sure you'll do great!

Just let everyone know exactly what your thoughts are and how you feel you are the best one for the job. It is an IMPORTANT job, stress that. Try and convince them that it isn't a popularity contest without exactly using those words. Being president is important, so hopefully your sisters won't make it a popularity contest because that is not the right way to go, especially for this position.

Ali - go for it sweetie!! You are pledge mom now and doing a great job...that should show everyone that you can do a great job as "prez." Don't doubt yourself - people might surprise you. I mean, there are sisters I loved with all my heart but NWIH would I have voted them president!!

Do you vote for offices one by one - like prez, go on to vp, etc or do you vote for everyone at once? It all depends who is nominated for pledge mom too.

Go for it girl! Just tell them your qualifications and hopefully they'll have the sense to listen.
I was archon last year, and when I was voted in it was tough...not because i didn't think i'd win but because I didn't want to hurt the other candidate's feelings. She had been a member 2 yrs longer than me and was best friends with the archon at that time...during elections we just happened to be sitting right next to each other. what was worst that night was that it only took one vote to decide...the past elections I had witnessed, it always took 3 or more...

Anyways, enuf about me... do your best and work hard both for archon and MOC. your chapter will put you in the right place

it sounds like you have a super track record. make sure you know what you really really want. if it is archon, then be prepared to share with your chapter your qualifications. make sure your pals are there too. but don't be shy. it's a marvelous opportunity.

I think it's a greek thing, but I was Membership Orientation Chair right before I was elected Archon! So I know you will do a super job!! Just stay positive and have a great time if you are elected! Be sure to let us know what happens!

Trust me on this one, from experience, just be straight up with them in what you can do for the group by getting the position. Even if it turns into a popularity contest, which it usually does, people won't vote for someone if they think the person will be a detriment to the groups leadership. Other than that, there's not much you can do. if a person is set to vote for a friend, they will. Whatever you do, don't resort to cheap shots or rumors, that's just pathetic. Good Luck!

Elections are this coming Sunday, right after our formal... blah!!!

Yes Sheila, the elections start at Archon (pres) and work their way down. I either want Archon or MOC
