George Washington U: Panhellenic Raises Total

At George Washington U chapter total has been increased, and there reportedly will be COB activity by "four" chapters, although the article identifies ony three. Yes, the article seems to hopelessly confuse the terms "quota" and "total," but I'm not going to travel to DC to give 'em a free lecture -- not at today's airfare prices + fees.

The article also mentions a Panhellenic committee that's been formed to look into the possibility of bringing a new chapter to GWU, but there's nothing definite about that yet:

http://media.www.gwhatchet.com/media...-3970089.shtml

Excerpts:

The GW Panhellenic Council . . . voted to raise chapter totals from 114 to 130 . . . .

Interest in Greek life at GW has been increasing in recent years, with a record 618 women participating in sorority recruitment this fall - a more than 20 percent increase over the past three years.

. . . four chapters will be recruiting this semester in an attempt to boost their numbers to the required amount of women, because they are currently below the new quota. The presidents of Alpha Phi, Phi Sigma Sigma and Pi Beta Phi each said they would be holding spring recruitments.

. . . The Panhellenic Council also voted last week to create a committee to look into the possibility of bringing another sorority to campus . . . . The committee, which does not yet have any members on it, will include one representative from each chapter . . . .

. . . the committee will report its findings April 4, but stressed that bringing a new chapter to campus is not definite, and depends on other chapters' capacity to colonize at GW - generally a year-long process.

The last chapter to colonize at GW was Chi Omega in 2007, and is now one of the larger sororities on campus.

Greek Life Director Christina Witkowicki did not return requests for comment.

Aren't a few chapers under investigation of hazing allegations? If one of those goes on probation or worse, it might change the dynamic again. Weird how they announce this today, and announce the fate of the chapters under investigation in a few days.

Greek life has been exploding at GWU. 3 chapters added been 2002 and 2007, and now possibly another. Pretty cool!

Yayyyyyy DC

I knew a girl in SDT there.

By "knew" I mean that I had a vague disdain for.
