Red face I Need Help

I attend Johnson & Wales University, charlotte campus. Out of the 4 Johnson & Wales campuses we are the only ones that do not have Greek Life. Everyone who has tried to bring Greek to JWU charlotte has failed. My mission is to be successful in doing so...I just dont know where or how to get started. If anyone could be of assistance I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

ash

Who tried to bring Greek life to J&W? Start there. Who is important in Greek life at other J&W schools. Talk to them, they might have good advice.

Talk to the administration AT YOUR SCHOOL. Find out what was proposed and by whom, why it failed, and what the rules are. We would not have that information.

As with most problems, it's best to go to the orignial source and work your way to a good conclusion.

no the charlotte campus has absolutely nothing to do w/ greek

here's what the director of campus events had to say:
Hi Ashley,

First off, I hope you have enjoyed the transition from the Miami campus here. I'll actually be heading down that way for a conference next week, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the Miami campus has to offer.

I appreciate you reaching out to Dean Walters regarding Greek Life. As the Director of Student Activities, this is an area that would ultimately fall under my purview, which is why she has asked me to respond. I can tell you, this is not a topic we take lightly and in fact, we agree with you that a fully functional, properly managed Greek Life program can make a positive impact on our students. Over the past few years though, we have put much consideration into what a Greek Life program would mean for this campus. We have researched and had in depth dialogue regarding the pros and cons. At the end of the day though, there are just too many variables that are preventing us from moving forward. Variables such as risk management concerns, legal obligations, limited staffing, student financial shortfalls, and infrastructure to name a few.

Because of the before mentioned items, Student Affairs has made the decision to remove Greek Life from our current strategic plan. This was not a decision we made lightly, but when we considered all the variables that contribute to creating and developing a successful Greek Life program, we came to the realization this campus is not prepared to sustain such an initiative at this time. We have instead shifted our main focus to the design, operation and management of the new student center, which will be open in the spring of 2011.

I know this is not the answer you were probably looking for, but we need to be realistic in our future plans and vision. If you would like, I would be more than happy to set up a meeting with you to discuss it further if you wish. Also, we will be planning a town hall meeting in the spring term to speak more to this topic.

All the best,
Matt
