Clemson Fraternities
Hi, I am currently a freshman from California who is interested in rushing this semester. I was wondering if somebody would kindly help me figure out what each fraternity is like. I am a Christian who does not drink because I am underage. I have no judgement on those who choose too, it is just a personal choice I have made. I was looking for a fraternity that would be okay with me not drinking during the pledge process. Also, I am looking for a fraternity that does not party out of control. I love to have fun and go to parties, but I wanted a fraternity that did not revolve around just partying and having sex. Any advice would be appreciated. If you could, leave a recommendation or two and a little bit about the fraternity and what makes it a good fit for what I have said.
Thank you!

We don't discuss reputations on this site. Go find out for yourself.

XAntoftheSkyX gave you an answer. You need to meet the guys at your school.

That honestly is all we can tell you. No one on GC is going to say "well, ABC is a bunch of lushes" or anything like that. And even if we did...we're a bunch of type on the internet. We could be completely making it up. You need to meet the members in person.

If you are concerned about a "dryer" fraternity, you can do things like look at their calendars of events, see how they compare to other fraternities on GPA, and see what activities the other brothers are into.

Alright, thanks guys. I understand that you may or may not have information on fraternities. I just did not know who else to ask, so I thought this would be a good place.
Once again, thank you.

Here's another idea. Are you involved in anything like FCA or Campus Crusade for Christ? Ask your fellow members in those groups what they think.

Attend some rush events. You'll start to get a feel, and if you don't feel (at some point, not 5 minutes after you walk in the door) comfortable enough sharing your concerns, they're probably not the place to be. But if you say you don't drink, you'll probably get some version of "that's cool" and then either get invited back, or not. There are a lot of reasons why people don't drink, so I think you can just mention it without having to share every religious or social opinion you ever had. If they look at you cross-eyed, you can always lie and say you have diabetes, and then know you're not going back there again. (living with a lie is NOT what I'm suggesting - just something to throw under the bus to get out of an awkward moment)
Also, do your research. There may be a fraternity that is as focused on Christianity as you want it to be.

I know I'm out of my lane on this, but doesn't the same thing we say for sorority recruitment also apply here? I mean every fraternity is bound to have some wild partiers and some guys that never miss their Bible studies (and maybe even members who do both). Go through recruitment and see where you feel comfortable, but be open to the fact that in fraternity recruitment and in life, not everyone is going to be like you. However if they like you as a person, it shouldn't be a problem.

Meh...
Every chapter does have all types, however fraternity chapters are typically smaller so there's less wiggle room if the prevailing attitude in the fraternity is not one that you are comfortable with. Furthermore there are chapters that have a pervasive culture that the OP would not be comfortable with at all - fraternities are much more likely to have a party culture that permeates all facets of chapter operations.

There are likely fraternity men in these groups and other groups on campus as well.

That is generally true that fraternities are generally smaller, but there is also usually more of a variety of them as well.
If it's any consolation to the OP, I know a Christian nondrinker who is in a fraternity at Clemson. So there's at least one out there.
