Interested in Being a Chapter Consultant
I am going to be entering my senior year in college this year and when I look back on my college experience, I can say with 100% certainty that the decision to join my fraternity was the best decision I made while at college. Being involved in my fraternity has allowed me to learn so much more about myself and has also prepared me for how to act like an adult for life after college.
However, while I am currently working for a lucrative company as an intern, the thought of maybe applying to be a chapter consultant for my national fraternity has entered my mind. I am very passionate about my chapter as well as my national fraternity and I have grown to love and appreciate the history of the national organization. Simply said, I am proud to wear my letters. Being a chapter consultant seems like an incredible way to learn more about yourself and the national organization and thus I am looking to learn more about the position.
I tried the search function and found some helpful past threads about other people contemplating the same decision. However, most of them were several years old and my situation is a little bit different. I have a high GPA, am in Order of Omega, have been involved in outside organizations, and I have served in my fraternity. I have noticed after reading the bios on our national website that almost all of them are former chapter presidents. I have not held an executive position in my fraternity but have served as three different chairmen, including Social Chairman. I realize this probably puts me at a disadvantage in the application process, but my question is do you think this is a prerequisite for any applicant? There is very little information about applying for such a position on the national website.
Finally, can anyone with maybe past experience offer advice or the pros and cons of such a position? I consider myself an outgoing introvert, but I am worried about the potential loneliness that might come while always being on the road. That being said, I have a huge sense of adventure and getting to travel across the country, meeting different brothers, offering insight, and getting to see all the houses seems like an incredible opportunity.
Any advice is greatly appreciated and I would like nothing more to use this thread as a way to generate some discussion on the position.
