Potential New Members Do the Darndest Things!

ITT we talk about wacky things pnms do.

I received an information packet for writing a rec which featured the pnm holding a baby duck.

Ahhh, adorable fluffy baby duck! (I am not sending the picture, which is great of the duck but only really shows the top of the pnm's head).

She should be grateful - you know she would be called "duck girl".

Last year we had a PNM send in a photo of her on a swing. Not a posed, sitting-still kind of swing... she was at least 4 feet up in the air at the time the picture was snapped.

While the actives are much too young to probably know the song, us old-fogey alums couldn't help but launch into "And she was swingin', just a swingin'..."

We did her a huge favor and did not pass the photo on to the chapter.

At least this year (fingers crossed) the "sitting on the train tracks" trend seems to have died. We had lots of Paulines in peril last year.

A few years ago, when I was a Recruitment Advisor for my chapter, we heard about an incident that occurred at Theta Phi's party where a PNM started yelling at a sister and almost hit her. I forget the reason why the PNM got so pissed off, but clearly it was ridiculous. My chapter and ASA found out about it VERY quickly. Needless to say, that PNM didn't receive a bid from any chapter.

About 15 years ago, we we doing a Grease skit for Theme Night. At the end, all the members were up front around the stage singing "You're the one that I want"...a PNM jumped up and danced with them! OMG! Who is this person?

Well, we pledged her and for the next 15 years DG was an integral part of her life. She was a truly dedicated member, serving as a chapter officer and alum officer until her untimely death in February of this year from complications of Cystic Fibrosis. We miss her terribly.....

Had one girl send me a picture with her younger sister in her packet. I called and asked if she could get another picture with just herself. She told me its okay you can just send that and tell them which one is me (little sister is 11 so I think they would figure it out anyway lol) I told her that was not really going to work and I needed a picture of just her. She went back and forth with me a few days until I finally said I would not be comfortable to write for her with out all the proper information. I had a new picture in 30 minutes...

In June, I had one send me a 6-page resume, absolutely packed. I called and said that I really needed to whittle this down to what was most important because no way would the sisters be reading 6 pages. She insisted it was all important.

I finally had to whittle it down myself to save her in spite of herself, knowing that entries like "did ring toss booth in my street's carnival" would win her no points. Or maybe it would've won her the title of "Ring Toss Girl".

LOL I needed a laugh this morning!

On the flip side of this one of my best friend's D sent a resume to me that was awful, I knew she had many more volunteer hours, awards and activities then listed. She is a very sweet girl and when I asked her to add stuff she said she didn't want to seem like she was bragging..

The photos. Oh the photos. This year I had one where the full length photo had the PNM dressed in one of those collegiate game day dresses that are made from t-shirts. Tight, strapless, short and showing way too many of her assets. She was also wearing those big mirrored sunglasses that covered half her face and made it unrecognizable. While I respected her effort at school spirit and I tried to communicate to her that something a little less Kardashian would be more helpful. It took a lot of back and forth, but she finally gave me a full length from her senior portrait series. A lovely photo that actually looks like her, but not without a lot of pouting.

less Kardashian... love that quote!

My question is why do so many of these girls think that as alumnae we have no idea what we are talking about?? Same goes for moms that weren't greek but have a daughter going thru recruitment so they hear a few things and think they know it all?
