Talking Internet Friendships

Have you met any internet buddies outside of Sorors or Frat? Let's hear good and bad experiences.
I've met both women and men who were not Greek online. Overall the experiences has been great. I joined a Black BBW group which consisted of about 15 Chicagoland women. Those women were there for me going through a really tough time last year. I even had a BBQ for them at my home, which was so much fun.
My only disappointment is a lot of these relationships seem to be short-lived. But still very close with my BBW group.

I used to belong to a date club on line. I actually met some of the men and was very disappointed. This was 5 years ago and I have to say that I would never do this again. They didn't have my direct e-mail but some of them continued to e-mail me until I my membership ended. A few were interesting but most of them were just plain weird. It was not a good experience.

I met my husband online, and one of my closest friends is a man I've never met. Another online friend came to my wedding back in January -- and it was the first time I met her, even though we'd been correpsonding/chatting for about three years. Its' strange -- if you keep your wits about you online, just like you keep them about you in real life, you can meet some quality people.

I'm a very shy person in real life. Meeting people online through words has always been a better outlet for me, because it gives me a chance to get to know a person's mind, heart, and soul first.

Thumbs up

SoTrue I agree. I have met great people online, havn't had any bad experiences, only thing I noticed is some of these relationships are short-lived, but that happens outside of online relationships as well.

Please don't meet someone that no one has ever heard of. For ex., If he is living in NYC and knows NO ONE that you know, not even minutely, don't meet them. There is something wierd about that. Online friendships are cool. Online romances, hmmm. Maybe I feel this way because of the things guys I know offline have lied about when they go online and meet different women. True, these things can happen offline but, let's keep our wits about us as soror mentioned. Thinking you're meeting Mr. Right only to realize you've just met Mr. Molester.

I have met a lot of cool people online...they end up being friends of friends, though. We talk on a pretty regular basis and I vist them whenever I go to visit my friends. I'm really quiet and still kinda shy until I get to know someone, so I'm kinda like SoTrue1920...this works out a lot better.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about on-line dating, though!

I haven't met anyone from GC, but I do have a friend that I met over the net about two years ago and he and I still keep in touch with each other. We know each other's real names and phone numbers. I happened to find my best friend, 9476, on a website called switchboard.com. I originally met him while we were both attending Howard U., the Original Mecca, in Fall '94. I hadn't been in contact with him for about 3 or 4 years (from the last time I'd visited HU) until I surfed the net and found him on that website on 4/4/00. We're dying to see each other again.
