Alpha Delta Pi songs

Hello,

I have a question to ask for those of you familiar with these songs. One of the moderators of this messageboard (Honeychile) may be of help. First off, I must tell you I am not college educated. So of course that means I never belonged to any sorority or fraternity. So you may be wondering why I am posting here. I am trying to find the correct titles and songwriters names to two Alpha Delta Pi sorority songs. One of them is a song mentioned by Honeychile in a thread I found by Googling on the Internet. That song in question is "When You Love An Alpha Delta."

The other song I am trying to find, it may be entitled "Teardrops" although I have some reservations regarding that title.

The lyrics partially go like this (or at least I think they do):

We are Alpha Delta Pi
And we love our sisters dearly
We are Alpha Delta Pi
And we grow much closer yearly
We will cherish all our memories
That we gather while we’re here
For they bring back many thoughts and happy tears

There's a bit in the Youtube link I've provided below in which the tempo increases and some of the verses above are repeated along with what sounds like teardrops rah-do-a-rah or something to that effect.

As for the reason I am trying to find the correct songtitles and songwriters, I am working on a book about Elvis Presley's recording sessions. Now you may be thinking "what does that have to do with Alpha Delta Pi?" Well, in November, 1973 Sam Thompson (the brother of Linda Thompson, Elvis' then girlfriend and also an Alpha Delta Pi sorority sister from Memphis State University) made a home recording of Elvis and Linda singing these two songs as duets. Any assistance on this matter would be appreciated. One thing I would like to point out is that as far as I know neither song has rightfully be credited in the Elvis fandom as far as correct songtitle / songwriter. In fact the song that I now know as "When You Love An Alpha Delta" was wrongly credited as "(Your) Life Has Just Begun" and miscredited to songwriter Randy California of the pyschedelic rock group "Spirit" since they had a song titled "Life Has Just Begun." One listen to this home recording compared to the "Spirit" song easily disproves this. I highly suggest listening to the youtube videos with earphones/earbuds than relying on PC / laptop speakers.

Looking at what I have it doesn't have who wrote either of these songs. The title of the one you call Teardrops I have as We are Alpha Delta Pi's and is to the tune In the Evening by the Moonlight. Sorry I can't be more help, but those recordings are really neat. Maybe someone who has an older song book might have more info.

Thank you nauadpi, Yes they are very neat songs. You can tell Elvis really loved the harmony parts of both songs. Do you have lyrics to "We Are Alpha Delta Pi's?" Do they match the lyrics I posted? What exactly are they singing when the tempo increases? To my ears, it sounds like Teardrops, rah-do-a-rah, Teardrops, rah-do-a-rah.

Thank you for putting up the correct lyrics, nauadpi. Anybody got any information regarding who wrote the lyrics? As nauadpi said earlier, this tune is sung to "In The Evening By The Moonlight" which was written by James A. Bland, who also wrote "Carry Me Back To Old Virginny" (Virginia).

I checked the vinyl record I have with When You Love An Alpha Delta on it, and there aren't any credits for any of the songs on it! There is an old Alpha Delta Pi Songbook that comes up on "that auction site" occasionally, and it's probably in there. Other than that, I'm not sure.

What IS interesting is that Elvis sang these duets with Linda Thompson, an ADPi sister, and also "dated" Ginger Alden, another ADPi. If you check the second video of the taping of When You Love An Alpha Delta, you can hear Linda say something about "mah sorority song". Elvis sure liked those ADPi girls, didn't he?

Yes, that's what we mean. There's another song for auction right now, and I asked the woman if she had When You Love An Alpha Delta, and she doesn't. She did say that she'll look for it though.
