Exclamation Nervous for Recruitment...help!

I am an entering frosh at UCLA and am very excited for recruitment. That being said I am also freaking out! I want to get into a sorority (one that I fit in well) but due to the competativeness, I am scared.
I am a legacy at Theta, and I also have a few rec letters coming my way. I have rec letters from Chi Omega, Pi Beta Phi, and possibly Gamma Delta or Tri Delta.
Despite that I'm still worried. If anyone could help me out by giving me some advice that would be great!

Do your research. First, it's Delta Gamma. That's an easy mistake when you don't know the houses, yet, but you'll want to make sure you know them before recruitment starts.

I'm guessing you'll want more recs than that, but maybe someone more familiar with UCLA can respond to that. If you can get family and friends beating the bushes just in case, it would be a good idea.

Read up on this site. There's tons of information to be gained here. Be yourself, get plenty of fluids and REST, and keep your options open. I'm hearing a lot of stories this year about girls getting cut from their favorite houses. I promise you the smaller, less prestigious houses still have a lot to offer, and if you give them a chance, you might find out they are also great.

Don't be so nervous, it will only make your recruitment experience more awk and stressful! Recruitment is a lot of fun. Just be yourself and keep an open mind!

Read the recruitment threads and stickies. Get your ducks in a row. Get your recs. Look your best. Show people the best version of you.

Above all, be humble and gracious, but confident and friendly. Good luck.

And remember to be polite and gracious when you go to parties. Even if you're generally really sarcastic and funny, when you're only meeting girls for 20 minutes sarcasm can come off as being plain rude. Don't worry! Just smile and relax.

The #1 thing to remember is what I call the "New England Rule". Never... ever... EVER during your time trying to get into ANY house at ANY school- say ANYTHING negative about anyone.

Lets say there is this girl in your lit class who annoys you because she keeps sneezing on your neck or something. Instead of venting to your roommate about that disease riddled girlie it's "I feel so bad for blah blah her allergies must make her so uncomfortable, I wonder if it's the air circulation in the building." it's a bad example I know but it's the best I can come up with.

Be kind, be polite and be the best version of you and I know you will find a sisterhood that fits you the way it should.

Also, UCLA is not the SEC, so don't be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information on GC.

DeltaBetaBaby is right. If you think the rest of the world is like the SEC, you'll have yourself sick over nothing.

I guess it starts today. Good luck! Here's a bit of last minute advice for you:

I liked the advice someone gave here somewhere that everyone should have 3 good stories to tell about yourself. Think about what you will likely be asked - major, what you did over the summer, your hobbies, what you like to do for fun. You don't want anything scripted, but these questions shouldn't come as a surprise and you should have some answers ready. I'd also have some questions ready to ask. You don't want to be stumped by "do you have any questions for me?" It's always good to have a couple in your back pocket.

Let us know how it's going. We're all pulling for you!

Dress well (think pretty and classy, in the California style) and be kind, considerate, friendly, and animated. See if you can use the usual types of questions (major/hometown/summer activities) to open up about yourself so that your rusher can get to know you as a person. If you find a mutual connection, go with the flow of the conversation.

Don't stress too much about it, though. Recruitment is lots of fun. Enjoy your parties!
