Talking UNT Recriutment!

I am planning on rushing at the University of North Texas this fall and I was wondering if anyone knew about how competitive it is or anything about rush. I read up on everything the sites, both UNT Greek Life and the Chapter sites, but I was just wondering if anyone knew things about it first hand or from someone who has been through it.

I'm just wondering because I am really curious about my chances ( I will rush regardless of whether or not because joining a sorority is something I REALLY want to try and be a part of). I'm a bit overweight, but my grades are well above average and I'm very outgoing and connect with people easily. I'm just curious because people keep grouping Texas schools into the "extremely competitive" category and I want just to know about UNT!

I have done Google searches and searched here, but there wasn't much...

Thanks for anyone's help and/or insight!

FWIW - It is my understanding that UNT is not as competitive as UT, A&M and SMU. That said, I would have my recs in order.

SWTXBelle- I have all my recs complete and all that and have already registered. Do you know how competitive it is though? Not just compared to other schools?

It's always interesting to me, because I always think competitiveness is in the eye of the beholder. I will tell you that it's not nearly as competitive as a UT, as I believe that every girl that wants to find a house will find a house. Now, like anything else, the houses can only have so many, and perhaps you find a house that 150 other girls also love, so then, yes, it can get competitive. I'm not sure how you judge "competitive" until you place it against other schools, where, say for example, you are a 5 time legacy of a chapter on campus (I've seen it several times) and are dead set on ONLY going there.

As always, it's about who you might know in a house that can help you out, though, that is never a done deal, and it never hurts to get to meet girls in your orientation group that might be going through rush.

I'm going to also assume that you're a freshman, so that helps, and this is a school where it's GREAT if you can get personal recommendation letters from Alumni who's chapters are there, as it looks like you've done, this will help, as there are a lot of girls who won't have recs.

Again, I think you'll find a great house there, and I wouldn't worry too much about the competitive rate. Just go in and have fun!

TXAPhiGirl-Thank you so much! For me I don't mind if it is competitive ( for me competitive is when there are so many girls and so little spaces so they cut people hard or if you don't have the "right" things they are looking for they pass you by.)

I guess I was just curious as to what I was going into. I wanted to know if there was a good chance that I will get into a sorority (if all went well) Like, if through out the whole thing I can just be relaxed because the percentages show that most girls who rush get in or something like that. Not necessary for me specifically, but as a general whole. I think knowing that would make me get past all my weight and other insecurities and help me not scrutinize over everything, so that I can just be comfortable and myself.

Thanks for the help.

I did not go to UNT, but very generally speaking:

Most women who make it to Pref, attend a full schedule of Pref parties and maximize their options will get a bid somewhere. It may not be your #1 choice though.
