The oil spill was too much for him

(June 24) -- Two weeks after he was hired by BP to help with the oil spill cleanup, William Allen Kruse killed himself.

The 55-year-old charter boat captain shot himself in the head Wednesday morning as he prepared to spend another day skimming oil off the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, clearing the spill that threatened to destroy his livelihood and community.

Kruse left no note, so it's impossible to know why he took his life. But those who knew him say the veteran fisherman and father of four was almost certainly the latest casualty in the gulf oil crisis, and a symbol of the spill's exacting human toll.

this is surprising, esp when his friends and family said he gave no signs of suicidal tendencies. i must be reading too much fiction cuz i wonder if someone in BP just killed him cuz he knew something.

thoughts?

The "conspiracy" style thing I heard was that he had been cheating on his taxes and thus wouldn't get reimbursed fully for his losses and so would be screwed either way.

No proof, but apparently that's been an issue as you have to provide tax proof of what you've lost.

I'm excited... there's a factory in a small town nearby that has been hired by BP to make these mattress-looking pads to soak up the oil! I hope it works!!
