Question Applying for Recruitment

I want to apply for recruitment this fall, and I have a question about filling out the form. On the front page, before you enter the application (everything is online, and you fill out the information as you go, so I'm not sure exactly what questions they ask) there is a message that says you have the option to submit a photo of yourself.

I do not have any recent professional or good photographs of myself that I want to submit, so I am considering not submitting one. I was wondering if this will hurt me, and what type of photo would be acceptable if I decide to submit one.

Thanks!

I would definitely suggest submitting a picture. It helps the chapters get to know you (along with your application/recs/ect) before recuritment starts...so having a face with a name really helps.

I didn't submit a professional one with my recs and resume, but I chose one where I looked put together. Try to pick one where you're wearing nice, more professional, classy type clothes, and one where there arent other people in the photo. A senior portrait works great, or even if you have your mom take some nice pictures outside while youre wearing something cute that works too.

My daughter submitted a copy of her senior portrait (head shot) with the registration. But, she also included a full body photo with her rec information that we took outside with a digital camera. The reasoning is that she will hopefully be more easily recognized with the full shot I took outside, where she was wearing a sun dress similar to what she will be wearing for recruitment.

Whatever photo you use, please make sure it actually looks like you. Some photos we see are so Photoshopped that the person coming through recruitment looks nothing like the person in the photo.

It also helps to have a photo of you just in case there are other girls in recruitment with similar names.

I've taken some good photos of myself (that I use for Facebook and such) by simply holding a camera at arm's length from my face. I take the photos outside on my deck. Put on some makeup and a nice top and go for it.

Try different smiles/facial expressions and angles. Smile at the camera like it's a cute guy -- let the smile reach your eyes. Out of every fifty digital photos, I come up with maybe four winners. Using some zoom seems to work best for me.

I edit a bit for color and lighting, and crop the picture slightly, but that's it.
