I have a question
Hey! I know I don't post in here too much but I have a question I need to ask. I'm really interested in serving as rush chair for this upcoming year. Elections for us open up in 2 weeks. I'm wondering how much of a commitment being rush chair will take. I really think I'd do a bang up job as rush chair because I'm very creative and love drawing new girls into my sorority. I would be really grateful if y'all could help me weigh the pros and cons of serving as rush chair. I really want to make sure that I'm going to have the time to dedicate because I would want to be the best person for the job. Any help or advice is definitely welcome.
Thanks!!!

Being rush chair is extremely stressful but also extremely rewarding. I was elected for it out of the blue, (only one girl ran for it and she ended up transfering, and i was just her assistant!) I had no idea what I had gotten myself in to. But after weeks of planning, some really fun times and some yelling, rush was over and my chapter accepted 33 new girls. It was an awesome feeling to have accomplished so much, see my sisters come together, and see all these new girls be so excited to be a part of my chapter. It was well worth it!
However, you must prepare yourself for sleepless nights, sisters who do not cooperate, sisters and alumni giving you a hard time for cutting girls that they wanted, and lots and lots of stress and paperwork.
But at the same time, realize that you are helping some new woman out there recieve the bonds of sisterhood into your organization, sisters who won't leave your side until everything is completed, and also growing bonds with women who are rush chairs from other groups. Some of those girls became your best friends bc they go through the same stuff you do.
in the end, its your decision, but i think its one of the best decisions i ever made!

After getting a chance to talk to you on a few occasions Allison, I think that you would be a GREAT rush chair for Sigma Alpha. Hope you get it!

Organization and flexibility are key. Having a schedule for work week/perfection week or whatever you call it is key. You're better off to tell people exact times when they will need to be there - an longer than you think it will take. We get much more upset if we have to stay longer than we thought than if we get out earlier.
One of the major frustrations I have seen within chapters concerning rush and the rush chair is perceived unorganization. Remember, perception is reality, most of the time. Have all of you stuff planned for a formal fall rush before you leave for the summer. Things can change from there but if you have all you planning in place and you sisters know it things will go a lot more smoothly.
Be organized, but be flexible enough to change things if needed.

My advice is also to if at all possible take a light load of school work the semeter your rush is. My rush chair didn't/couldn't go to class for the two weeks of rush and her grades suffered.
have excellent rush rounds chair people.
I always wanted to be rush chair and thought it would be fun.
Good luck!

School is soso....lol. I just wanted to let you know that I've accepted a bid for Beta Sigma Phi. We've started a new chapter here in Baton Rouge and I got elected as the first vice president of our chapter. Things are going great here. How was rush for you guys?

Congrats on getting a bid from Beta Sigma Phi. School is soso for me too. Had to drop my organic chem class...it got to be too much. Rush went really well for us. We got 8 really awesome girls and I got a new lil sis (she's such a sweetie!!!). Thanks so much for what you said. I'm reeeeeeeealllyyyyy hoping that I'm rush chair. I've got some really cute ideas from gc that I want to incorporate into our rush.
