Fall 2008 Recruitment Story
Hello! I have been lurking around the threads for a while and decided I should start posting and that a good place to start would be my recruitment story. I went through recruitment in the fall of 2008 and a large but non-Greek school. There are plenty of don't in this story and I made a lot of mistakes but somehow had a happy ending. My first knowledge of sororities came from the movies as none of my friends or family were Greek, it was actually the movie Sydney White that sparked my interest in Greek life. I watched that movie the summer before I started university and had to wonder whether it was true or not. I began to research starting with the school in my hometown, which I was surprised to learn even had Greek life. My search then switched to the school I am now attending and I began read through their Panhellenic website which was very helpful. I realized of course that the movies were rather inaccurate and began to get really excited about recruitment, I later found out I was the first person to register for recruitment that year.
I don't what to say what school I go to or even where it is but like I said it is not a very Greek school. The tendency is for a higher number of smaller chapters, there were 7 NPC groups at the time with Total at 55. I will name them after random countries, in no particular order they are:
India
Angola
England
Greece
Kuwait
Australia
Canada
My next post will be about round one!

Round 1
We all meet in the largest classroom on campus to register and meet our recruitment counsellors, before heading over to the Greek village, there were about 20 to 30 girls and 2 counsellors per groups. This round was basically just go to all the chapters and chat with the girls. These are my thoughts as best as I remember:
Canada- Loved them, thought they were classy and put together, I however was not! I actually spilt my water all over the carpet and myself during this visit and thought I had lost any chance of ever getting in
England - very girly, bubbly and pink! I thought they were very sweet and really liked them
Greece - nice girls, didn't really stand out in any special way
Australia - more reserved and quiet girls, nice but again nothing really stood out, felt they were kinda nerdy
Kuwait - fun girls, we talked about fashion and getting deals, I liked them
Angola - the girls were very strong personalities, I'm more quiet and found them rather overwhelming
India - my notes from the day indicate that I thought they were very concerned with appearance, they felt kinda fake but I liked them otherwise
At my school we don't distinguish between our top 4 since that's how many we can go back to the next day. In the end I ranked:
1. India, England, Greece, Kuwait
5. Angola
6. Canada (I thought they had written me off)
7. Australia

I had a sister who rushed a second time and only ranked certain houses instead of ranking her actual preference just because she had a better idea of how the "game" was played after having arleady gone through once and wanted to see what'd happen when/if they started dropping her.

Just thought I'd address some questions, I will continue with the story later. First I meant that the school itself is large though Greek life is not. As for India, I liked the rest of my time there and remember the top 4 are in no particular order.
