Helping a transfer?

I'm not sure if there is a transfer thread. Also I have a couple different questions too.

I originally rushed at my school at the beginning of the semester. I commute from my hometown. I am actually going to the college in my hometown. (you can message me and find out what college I am at now, and am going to). I ended up getting asked back to do COR, but the school in my hometown didn't have that sorority so it made no sense to rush that sorority (even though those girls are awesome and some reason I decided to stay, I'd totally rush them in the fall ).

I'll be a junior in the spring (my school only has formal recruitment, because its so huge). I heard they drop juniors really quickly during the rounds of rush. Would getting recommendations from people in different sororities help? I also am a legacy (AXO is the sorority).

I'm kind of worried, because the school is huge. They got somewhere between 900-1,000 people for rush I think?
I'm just glad I know another girl who is going to be a junior next year and is rushing (she didn't like the sorority she got a bid from). I also already know how somewhat it will go.

If you're going to a school where there are that many PNMs (900-1000), chances are VERY good that it's a competitive school and recs are a MUST.

The schools I can think of with those kinds of numbers (i.e. the SEC and some others) are written about on GC a lot. Do a search for the school and you shouldd get some results.

I could be wrong, but I dont think being a cousin makes you a legacy. Every org is different though. you might want to look into that. she can still write you a rec though. only 1% of what dont end up getting a bid? legacies? even if you are a legacy, it doesn't mean you're guarunteed a bid. do NOT think that. what if there's 50 AXO legacies going through rush, but only 40 can be accepted?

i just checked the AXO website, and only sisters, daughters, grand daughters and great-granddaughters can be legacies. http://www.alphachiomega.org/index.aspx?id=76 so if you're one of those, then you're a legacy.

dont go into recruitment thinking "i do/dont want that group." remember that they have to want you back. it's a mutual selection process. keep an open mind, especially in such a competative environment. best of luck!

I have a bunch of friends who went/go to VT. Quota has been steadily rising the past several years to where it is now in the 50s. With 13 chapters, that means about 650-700 are matched if everyone makes quota. I do not know if 900-1000 actually sign up. That is inconsistent with "only 1% not getting a bid". At any school, the vast majority of the PNMs who are not placed are not because they dropped out/didn't rank all of their options.

Recs are nice to have but not vital. It might be a good way to "compensate" for being a junior. Sophomores generally do not have a problem (assuming they don't have any "strikes" against them), but I can't speak to the success of juniors at VT. I hope your grades are good.

My friend who is a Kappa from VT said that there were "so many legacies" when they had about 15 going through. If cousin is your only "legacy" connection, you are not a legacy per AXO's policy, though if she is an active, she may be able to put in a good word for you.

Since quota has been going steadily up, and since a chapter closed for risk management reasons, VT Panhellenic is open for extension. You could ask Ooh La La, a Chi O from VT if she knows anything about the timeline for that. You may consider looking into that opportunity. Colonies want women of all classes, not just freshmen. Of course, there are no guarantees you'd be chosen.
