We usually incorporate a library study program into NPC's Week of the Scholar and have free food and drinks in the lobby of the library during the evening. Also, a chapter on campus "patrols" the library every other night and brings candy and little presents to sisters who are studying there.

Our chapter had required study hours for the new members AND for low-GPA initiated members. We kept a 'log book' at the library and usually asked one sister to be available at the library in the evenings. This usually was not difficult, as this was a commuter campus and there wasn't anyplace else to study. Also, it sets up good study habits for freshmen.

Don't forget to make up study books for each new member - fill them with study tips, websites that help with basic classes, phone numbers for the campus tutoring service, etc. Reward one member each week for a top grade or for raising their GPA or whatever. At the end of the year, offer a scholarship trophy or prize - one for new members and one for upperclassmen.

Thumbs up

As new members are not allowed to attend general meeting there will be an hour break for them between their meeting and rejoining ours. That time will be used as a study period.

Any suggestions of such websites? And what kinds of things did you use as prizes? Gift certificates to salons or restaurants? A letter sweatshirt?

two of the best study help websites are:

www.homeworkcentral.com (all subjects)

and

www.pinknotes.com (literature--sort of like cliff notes, but free)

In our chapter all sisters are required to complete 3 library hours per week, this includes new members. We did this so as to not make the new girls do something that we wouldn't want to. We keep a log in the library and check in and out on the honor system. Within the past three semesters it has really helped to pull up our GPA.

Just wondering, I checked out these web sites and that pink notes site is a on line messaging system, has nothing to do with studying.

In our chapter everyone has study hours, except for those with extremely high GPA's.

Our chapter makes a mandatory study session in the library for the pledges and our library has a sign in for groups like ours because at our school several other groups do the same thing. Just to keep good people honest, we do drop by to make sure there is no ambiguity between the sign in and the people there. lol! Do whatever it takes!!!

We have a very strict study hour policy for our pledges...
They are required to show up for sixteen hours of total study hours. A lot of ppl think it's harsh, but hey, the more they study, the more they get the actives to study..because the actives are required the same. We all study together, get stuff done, hell, they'd be studying anyway, and if they weren't, they were for at least some time!

I like it, I think it works.

In the past we've tried to set up study nights...but the sisters refuse (i can't study at the library. It's too quiet! I need to eat when I study! etc)
well, i know most of our girls do go to the library at some time or another...but what do you suggest for us? It is not possible for us to keep a log book in the library..there is no place for it.

Scholarship has been a major problem in our chapter since we have to rely on getting their marks from the members(we're not allowed to get them from the registrar; noone but the student has the right to see their grades(not even parents)).
Last year I was scholarship, and I tried, but 2 girls ended up getting kicked out! I had no clue and there was nothing I could do...
now I'm alum, and some of the girls trust me more so I badger them and they usually listen (like if I see them out the night before a mid-term or test, I don't care if they get embarrased when I center them out, I'll tell 'em to get home and study)

any advice?

Our new members have study hours every night for 2 hours during the week. Sisters with low GPAs below standards are also required to attend. The study hours are proctored by two sisters, each night. They aren't in the library, but in a classroom on campus. It works out well. And everyone has to proctor, so it's not the same people getting stuck all the time.
