help! big sis has been asked to resign

Ok, I am a L Sis with a big issue. My big sis has been asked to resign after a disagreement with another girl in the house. She's been called before the judicial committe before, for small issues, but now she's been asked to resign. What are her options? Does anyone out there have any ideas or options?

I don't know the situation, but if she's been asked to resign its more than likely best trust the Judicial Committee's judgment.

She should be given a chance to appeal. If she disagrees with the final judgement of the chapter, she can take it to your (inter)national headquarters - most likely the VP of collegians or whatever your org calls it.

Check your policies and bylaws (chapter and national) to see how to properly proceed.

Members aren't asked to resign for a "disagreement". There's likely a lot more to the story than you are privy to.

But really, this is your big's issue to deal with and you should stay out of it. Be there for her if she needs you, but let her handle her own matters.

Realize that you may not know the whole story since you are likely just hearing your Big sister's side. Having a sister disaffiliate from a chapter is not a light matter. What you think is a small issue is likely bigger than your friend is telling you. As others have said, she can research the appeals process for your organization. This would be outlined in your group's operating procedures, collegiate chapter manual or other similar document. Try looking on the organization's website on the sister side. In the end, you need to let her take care of her own problems and be her friend. Even if she is no longer your sorority sister, she can always remain your friend.

I agree with all of the above ... however, I do hope your big is allowed to be present and present her side of the story to the judicial committee. We were forced to disaffiliate a girl when I was in college and even though I agreed with the action, it was not handled fairly and I've always felt bad about that.
