The Young Victoria

Has anyone seen this? Probably not the most historically accurate piece ever, but very sweet and fun to watch!

I saw it over Christmas. We liked it, and it's true that she couldn't wait to get rid of her mother etc. It's a shame it was a "boutique" film - the acting was really decent. Actually, we also so "An Education" the same weekend, at the same theatre, and felt the same way - it was badly distributed, yet a very good film.

I saw it and I liked it. Like you say, it wasn't entirely accurate. But her struggles, both personal and public, were pretty real. Emily Blunt did a great job of playing Victoria, IMO. I didn't think the movie really played up that, she was infact, since birth, set up to marry Prince Albert. What I got fromt he film, is that it was suggested to them, but they weren't just thrown into the marriage, like it happened in real life. But chance, they just happen to be very good companions, and their personas complimented each other's. And among their arranged marriage, they really did find a deep compelling love.

I broke down and bought the DVD - it has a lot of extra scenes that didn't make the final cut. In some ways, it's hard for me to believe that Victoria and Albert were in their late teens/early 20s when the movie takes place, but in some ways it's not. And I didn't realize that the producer Sarah Ferguson was that Sarah Ferguson!
