I don't know what's worse...the comment itself or the idea that I think I see where he was coming from...hehe.

This truly is No Country for Old Men.

I don't even understand the analogy. Is there a clause missing?

I think it was because he was cut off. What I'm assuming is that Rather suggested that as nice and as articulate the President is, he couldn't even sell watermelons to black people.

I am going a bit deeper than that....I think it may have something to do with how Repubs may perceive Obama.

It may have something to do with stereotypes.

Since he said "he couldn't sell watermelons if you gave him state troopers to flag down the traffic" I think it was more like "Obama couldn't sell fruit by the side of the road even if the traffic was stopped."

Watermelon is delicious anyway.

If black people like watermelons so much, wouldn't Obama be keeping them to eat and enjoy instead of selling them?

This is just Dan being Dan. There was nothing racial about it.

And where in hell is he supposed to store all of those watermelons?

While we are on the subject of produce, I am hoping that they continue the Thursday fresf food market around the corner from the WHite House.

In W's old gun/coke/teddy bear cabinet. It should be big enough.

If he has the GMO square watermelons he can stack them and make the most amount of the available storage space.

I don't think anyone can definitively say there was nothing racial about it. And even if that was not his intent, he should have chosen his words carefully given how the watermelon issue has been played out in this country.

Either way, I don't even care. We know that there are some people who don't like having a Black president. They have been disrespecting the presidency in this way since Obama came into office.
*shrugs*
