Switching Fraternities Question

Ok so here is the predicament. I joined a fraternity in the fall, went through all of pledgeship but did not get initiated because my grades were a little low. Well at initiation there was a ritual which got reported to IFC and there is a very good chance our fraternity will be kicked off campus.

Now here is the question: given the circumstances would I a) be allowed to join another by nationals or IFC and b) be accepted by another fraternity.

Let me just say off the top, I am not planning on switching and I am not 100% sure if I even want to, I would just like to know if I have the opportunity open to me given I was never initiated and not present when the incident in question took place.

Thanks a lot.

If you weren't initiated then I'd think you'd be free to pursue other options. That's no guarantee anyone else will pick you up though. Also I'd suggest you focus on grades before Greek Life if you want a shot of going anywhere.

As long as you were not initiated, you are able to re-rush and join another fraternity.

You weren't initiated so you are technically able to join.

Whether you will be accepted by another fraternity depends on your campus and your former group's standing on it. That can run the gamut from "about time those jagoffs got what they deserved" to "I feel so bad for ABC, they're totally getting railroaded." You know the answer to that better than we do.

Did the chapter make up their own ritual? Usually all NIC fraternities have rituals that do not violate IFC regulations. The only possible reason for an IFC to take action is if the ritual involved alcohol and intense hazing.

Now for my opinion: Definitely focus on grades. You will not get anywhere without decent grades. Most fraternities require a 2.5 or higher. It may vary. Having over a 3.0 is definitely a plus.

If your chapter's national decides to revoke the initiation for violations, then you are still eligible to get initiated into another fraternity.
